Research Fields:

My research activity focus in the field of strongly correlated and magnetic materials. Mainly transition metal oxides presenting non-conventional magnetic, electronic or structural properties. Our research deals with physical phenomena such us charge/orbital ordering,metal-insulator transitions, spin dependent transport, giant magnetoresistance, magnetic structures determination, magnetic dynamics and frustration or superconductivity. My expertise is in chemical and magnetic crystallography using neutron and synchrotron sources. Also structural, magnetic and electric characterization at high, low and ultra-low temperatures, high pressure and very high magnetic fields. Physicist at the I.L.L. from Jan 1988 to Sept 1991. My research experience in Condensed Matter Physics and Crystallography has included a continuous experimental activity at the Large European Facilities (ILL, ISIS, ESRF and LLB) since 1987. During the last 14 years I've developed collaborative research activities mainly with groups in Spain, France, U.K., Belgium, Germany and USA. Expertise in the interplay between chemical/magnetic structures and electronic/transport properties in 3d transition metal oxides with controlled band filing and strong electron correlations. My research has been dedicated to establishing the physical mechanisms and interactions at atomic level in electronic and magnetic materials. With the aim of both understanding their behavior and optimising/tuning the electric, structural and magnetic responses/transitions for innovative technological applications. Areas of interest: Multiferroics, Metal-insulator transitions; inhomogeneous charge distributions in strongly correlated oxides; ferromagnetic metals and semi-metals with polarized bands; orbital physics and charge/orbital ordering in transition metal oxides; phase separation (nanoscopic/macroscopic) and giant magnetoresistance; spin-dependent transport and spin electronics; magnetic structure determination; magnetic dynamics in complex magnetic systems, magnetic nanoparticles; control of dopants and the role of defects; structural and compositional basis for superconductivity; magnetism in organic compounds; preparation techniques and unusual valences in transition metal oxides. Methodological areas of interest: Chemical and magnetic crystallography; complementary use of neutron-synchrotron-muon techniques for structural, magnetic and electronic characterization; magnetic dynamics using muons; microstructural analysis using neutron and synchrotron diffraction
