Madrid, 23-27 JUL 2018: ICSNN: International Conference on Superlattices, Nanostructures and Nanodevices

The 20th edition of the ICSNN  (International Conference on  Superlattices, Nanostructures and Nanodevices) will take place this year in Madrid between 23 and 27 July 2018. The ICSNN is a biennial conference series with a tradition lasting back to the 1980s, usually being the largest satellite conference to the International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors (ICPS). The ICPS will be held in Montpellier (France) the week after ICSNN.

Scope of the conference:

  • Quantum Nanotechnologies: Solid state quantum information processing, spin qubits in quantum dots, hybrid superconductor-semiconductor nanostructures

  • Two Dimensional Systems: electronic, transport and topological properties, Floquet systems

  • Nano-photonics and quantum optics in single quantum dots, microcavities and photonic bandgap materials

  • Latest nanostructure fabrication techniques

  • Nanoelectronics: transport in semiconductor quantum dots, AC-driven transport, quantum thermoelectricity

  • Semiconductor nano-spintronics, spin manipulation in nanostructures

  • Terahertz physics and devices

  • Nanoelectronics in biosystems, hybrid organic semiconductor systems, molecular systems and devices

  • Electronic and optical properties of novel semiconductor structures

Unfortunately, our good friend, collaborator and benefactor or many ICMAB researchers, Dr. Massimo Marezio, passed away last May 13, 2019, in his hometown, Rome. Prof. Xavier Obradors, who met him while he was doing his PhD thesis in Grenoble, has written him some words as an obituary in the form of a last personal letter. Read it here. Massimo se n’è ándato, a sempre caro amico!
  • Since 20 May 2019 our measurements are attached to nature constants

On May 20, 2019, this year's World Metrology Day, the changes in the definitions of the International System of Units (SI) were accepted. All the units, now, depend on the laws of nature, instead of depending on physical artefacts. The "Big Kilo" as we knew it, will no longer be the reference to the "kilo". Instead, this unit will be based on the Planck constant, as the "meter" is based on the speed of light. In the redefinition, four of the seven SI base units – the kilogram, ampere, kelvin, and mole – were redefined by setting exact numerical values for the Planck constant (h), the elementary electric charge (e), the Boltzmann constant (k), and the Avogadro constant (NA), respectively.
