This year, Chinese New Year - The Year of the Rooster - begins on Saturday January 28 and lasts until February 15th, 2018. The new year, also known as the Spring Festival, is marked by the lunisolar Chinese calendar, so the date changes from year to year. The festivities usually start the day before the New Year and continue until the Lantern Festival, the 15th day of the new year. Each Chinese New Year is characterised by one of 12 animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac.The Chinese zodiac is divided into 12 blocks (or houses) just like its western counterpart, but with the major difference being that each house has a time-length of one year instead of one month.

DILLUNS DE CIÈNCIA, 24 d’octubre: "Les primeres dades de la missió Gaia"

Gaia ha estat dissenyada per completar el mapa 3D més precís i complet de la nostra galàxia. Les primeres dades publicades el passat 14 de setembre contenen les posicions i magnituds obtingudes durant el seu primer any de missió nominal (d’un total d’almenys cinc anys) per més de mil milions d’objectes. A més, per a dos milions d’estrelles en comú amb Tycho-2 ja s’han pogut determinar també les seves paraŀlaxis i moviments propis.

NFFA-Europe project (www.nffa.eu) is the first open-access infrastructure in Europe to perform research at the nanoscale. As part of the training activities, a Summer School devoted to "Nanoscience Foundries and Fine Analysis (NFFA), available instruments and techniques" took place at the Engineering School of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) between 18th and 22nd of July.

ICMAB Teaches Students About Science and Technology with 3Doodler Pens and Imagination

"Rodríguez and Guillermo de Andrés put together the two-day YoMo workshop, called “Bridg3D: Learning, Engineering, Playing with 3D Printing Technology.” It allowed students to be scientists for a day, thanks to the popular 3D printing pen 3Doodler. ICMAB clearly favors the 3Doodler, having used it last summer in a course the organization designed to teach high school students about materials science. "

Éxito de la actividad Bridg3d en el YOMO (FOTOS)

El ICMAB ha estado estos días en el YOMO, un salón didáctico centrado en la juventud, vinculado al Mobile World Congress. Durante dos días los numerosos visitantes que pasaron por el taller, organizado por Andrés Gómez y Guillermo De Andrés, pudieron aprender qué es el método científico y se les invitó a ser científicos por un día aplicando los conocimientos adquiridos para construir puentes usando los lápices  3Doodler.

Excellence 2016 (PHOTOS)

Five Centres of Excellence “Severo Ochoa” and two Units of Excellence “María de Maeztu” organized a workshop that aimed to discuss and to contrast the different political and scientific strategies applied by different public and private entities/institutions. The purpose was to encourage and to stimulate the scientific community from universities and research centers to achieve the highest scientific level of excellence.
