Development of scalable domain wall based nanodevices
Applications are invited for 1 post doc position opening in april (fixed term
contract of 18 months) to conduct research in the area of sub-100nm
spintronic devices based on domain wall motion.
The proposed research is part of a CNRS innovation program in charge of
evaluating the potential of a new concept of spintronic devices patented at
C2N. The research work will be conducted in the Nanoelectronics
Department of the Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (C2N,
www.c2n.universite-paris-saclay.fr), which is a leading research institute in the
Paris-Saclay area with over 400 researchers and 2800 m2 in clean room
facilities. The Nanoelectronics Department of C2N covers a broad spectrum
of research activities ranging from the fundamental investigation of quantum
circuits to the implementation of novel nanodevices based on the
manipulation of various variables (charge, spin, phase), including the
development of advanced materials and the study of novel architectures
such as bio-inspired circuits. The research will also be conducted in the
framework of a USA-French international laboratory including the University of
Lorraine, the University of California San Diego and New York University and in
collaboration with SINGULUS technology in Germany.
Potential candidate should demonstrate expertise in a relevant area of
spintronics, materials science, domain wall propagation and experience in
nanofabrication and magnetic characterization is highly desirable. Since the
candidate will also participate to the business evaluation of the technology,
motivation for entrepreneurship will also be considered with a possible R&D
senior position in the newly created start-up company SPIN-ION Technologies.

    On May 20, 2019, this year's World Metrology Day, the changes in the definitions of the International System of Units (SI) were accepted. All the units, now, depend on the laws of nature, instead of depending on physical artefacts. The "Big Kilo" as we knew it, will no longer be the reference to the "kilo". Instead, this unit will be based on the Planck constant, as the "meter" is based on the speed of light. In the redefinition, four of the seven SI base units – the kilogram, ampere, kelvin, and mole – were redefined by setting exact numerical values for the Planck constant (h), the elementary electric charge (e), the Boltzmann constant (k), and the Avogadro constant (NA), respectively.
