The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI is the largest research centre for natural and engineering sciences within Switzerland. We perform cutting-edge research in the fields of matter and materials, energy and environment and human health. By performing fundamental and applied research, we work on sustainable solutions for major challenges facing society, science and economy. PSI is committed to the training of future generations. Therefore, about one quarter of our staff are post-docs, post-graduates or apprentices. Altogether PSI employs 1900 people.

In the framework of the international fellowship program with the acronym: “PSI-FELLOW-II-3i”, the PSI is inviting experienced researchers (Postdocs) from all over the world to submit their applications for research positions that are part of our new postdoctoral program. Our “3i or triple i” postdoctoral program offers unique opportunities for scientific and career development with international, interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral prospects. Our postdoctoral program is a Horizon2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND Action.

The deadline for applications will be 20th December 2016.

  • Since 20 May 2019 our measurements are attached to nature constants

On May 20, 2019, this year's World Metrology Day, the changes in the definitions of the International System of Units (SI) were accepted. All the units, now, depend on the laws of nature, instead of depending on physical artefacts. The "Big Kilo" as we knew it, will no longer be the reference to the "kilo". Instead, this unit will be based on the Planck constant, as the "meter" is based on the speed of light. In the redefinition, four of the seven SI base units – the kilogram, ampere, kelvin, and mole – were redefined by setting exact numerical values for the Planck constant (h), the elementary electric charge (e), the Boltzmann constant (k), and the Avogadro constant (NA), respectively.
