The association Mujeres & Cía has revealed, on June 21 in Madrid, the list of the most influential women talents of Spain. Among them there are athletes, businesswomen, politicians, journalists, and a researcher from ICMAB: Anna Laromaine.
Anna Laromaine is a researcher at the Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites Group (NN) at the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB). She holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry and has completed six years of postdoctoral studies at international centers such as Imperial College London, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.
She works at ICMAB combining the study of materials science, chemistry and biology to design nanomaterials for medical and cosmetic applications, focusing on the study of the interaction between nanoparticles and biological materials. She is now working on a project to optimize the physical-chemical properties of nanomaterials in order to apply them to biomedicine.
In 2014 she was recognized by fem.talent with the Talent Emergent 2014 award for her scientific career and her entrepreneurial activities in the company Osmoblue. In 2016 she obtained one of the grants of the program L'Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science; now she is ranked as one of the top 100 women leaders in Spain by Mujeres & Cía, on the category of researchers and academics.
Apart from the research activities, she leads and participates in various activities of scientific dissemination and teaches in the Master of Advanced Nanoscience and Nanotechnology of the UAB.
The top 100 initiative, which has fulfilled this year its sixth edition, is led by Mercedes Wullich, director and founder of the Mujeres & Cía media, characterized by promoting and making visible the presence of women in all areas. It is divided into ten categories: academics and researchers; high direction; culture, leisure and sport; directives; businesswomen; public, institutional and political; media; thinkers and experts; revelation and entrepreneurs; and third sector.
