In the framework of the 10alamenos9 Festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, a Nanostories contest has been launched for high school students, from 3rd and 4th ESO and 1st and 2nd BTX. The idea is to write short stories of maximum 200 words in which nanoscience and nanotechnology are present. The deadline to participate is 5 April 2021. Go for it!

On 17-18 September 2020, the 5th Scientific Meeting of PhD Students (JPhD2020), organized by PhD fellows of the ICMAB, IMB-CNM, ICN2 and the UAB takes place! This new edition is ONLINE, representing a challenge for the organizers and speakers. During two days, 4 invited speakers and more than 80 participants are connected and will be sharing their research in amazing fields. Good luck!

On Monday, 24 February 2020, the workhop between ALBA and ICMAB scientists took place at the Maxwell Auditorium at the ALBA Synchrotron facilities. On Friday, 6 November 2019, the ICMAB and Mettler Toledo organize a workshop for students and young researchers on Good Laboratory Practices. There will be three sessions on Spectrometry UV/Vis, Good Pipetting and Electrochemistry and pH. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued for each participant. Regiser before 14 October 2019! The session is especifically for Bachelor and Master Students and PhD fellows, although everyone is invited!

On Monday, 28 October 2019, the ICMAB staff, especially the new Master students and PhD and Postdoc fellows, are invited to the presentation of the Scientific Equipment Platforms (SEP) of the ICMAB. The 9 Scientific and Technical Services have prepared some posters to present their equipment and research techniques to the researchers to broaden up their research possibilities. We are sure that from this day, new and exciting collaborations will emerge.

On Wednesday, 23 October 2019, and to celebrate the Open Access Week, which is celebrated this week all over the world, we organized a seminar on "Open Access at ICMAB: Frequently Asked Questions". The seminar was for the Institute researchers to solve some doubts about publishing in Open Access, and organized by the ICMAB "Manuel Cardona" library. Read here more about it!

The Soft Lab, run by Amable Bernabé, has hosted from Monday, 7 October, to Wednesday, 9 October a course on "Characterization techniques for particulate materials". The course has counted with 12 participants from different CSIC centers (including ICMAB, IBM-CNM, ICM, IQAC...) and has introduced the participants to different techniques to characterize nanoparticles and other particulate matter, including the basic fundamentals, sample preparation, practical examples and results interpretation.

The 1st EUSMI/NFFA-Europe Joint School on Data Management will take place in Trieste, Italy, on 10-11 December 2019. The course is in the framework of the NFFA-Europe project, which integrates 20 partners, including the ICMAB.

On Thursday, 11 July, we receive the visit of South Korean researchers working on Flexible Electronics. We have organized a small workshop open to all our staff and researchers of the surrounding centers, in which they will explain their research, and then some of our ICMABers researchers, will explain our research on this topic. On Wednesday, 10 July 2019, ALBA Synchrotron hosts a workshop on "Single photon detection" constituting a Satellite Workshop to the Expert Group meeting of the SENSE initiative. In the framework of the MSCA-RISE 2017 H2020 Project: Hybrid Nanostructured Oligonucleotide Platforms for Biomedical Applications (Nano-OligoMed), the International Summer School on Hybrid (bio) Nanostructures (HyNano), which is focused on hybrid organic-inorganic materials containing biomolecules or having bioinspired structures, will take place in Alghero (Italy) between 3-7 September 2019. On 17-20 September ICMAB will host the MATENER 2018: Severo Ochoa Summer School on Materials for Energy. This summer school is addressed to last year undergraduate, master and PhD students, who are interested in the development of materials with energy applications, such as photovoltaics, thermoelectrics, batteries or superconducting materials.
