Meetings Participation

Núria Crivillers was in Mollina (Málaga) from 17 to 20 June 2019 to participate as member of the jury on the "Certamen Jóvenes Investigadores" in which young researchers presented their research projects. Núria Crivillers was in charge of evaluating the projects in the field of physics, chemistry and mathematics. The CSIC sponsors and offers various stays at their researh institutes as part of the awards. 

The 9^th European Conference on Boron Chemistry (EuroBoron9) will take place in Barcelona in 2022, and will be organized by ICMAB researchers, Rosario Núñez and Jose Giner. This year, on 24-28 June 2019, the researchers from the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Lab (LMI) participated in EuroBoron8 in Montpellier, presenting many posters and oral communications. 

The IX AUSE Conference and 4th ALBA User’s Meeting 2019, jointly organized by AUSE (the Spanish Synchrotron User Association) and ALBA Synchrotron, will be held in ALBA synchrotron, Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona) during Tuesday-8th and Thursday-10th of October 2019. Submit your abstracts to participate until 14 June 2019!

In the framework of the European Week of Sustainable Energy, experts from the field of energy transition will talk about the energy of the future and the social impact of the energetic system as we know it. Xavier Obradors, from the ICMAB will give an introductory talk. A roundtable with the participation of members of IREC, ICN2, ICFO, CNM, ICMAB and "Xarxa per la Sobirania Energètica" will follow. 

The 16th edition of the NanoSpain Conference, annual appointment for experts in nanoscience and nanotechnologies, takes place at the Parc Científic of Barcelona on May 28-31, 2019. Many ICMABers are attending the conference, including Anna Laromaine as Invited Speaker, and Jaume Veciana as Advisory Board. 

Coinciding with the 100th anniversary of IUPAC in 2019, the XXXVII edition of the Biennial of theSpanish Royal Society of Chemistry will be held on May 26-30, 2019 in Donostia-San Sebastian. ICMABers from the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Lab, from the FunNanoSurf group and from the NANOMOL group attend the meeting!

Within the framework of the IV Festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology 10alamenos9, the Institutional Delegation of the CSIC in Madrid organizes a new edition of the National Meeting of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Outreach Projects (Encuentro Nacional de Nanodivulgadores), on Friday, 26 April 2019, at the IQFR (Madrid). 

On 7-8 March 2019, the VI Strategic Immersion of the Advanced Materials Cluster (Cluster MAV), in collaboration with ACCIÓ, took place in Sitges. Our Technology Transfer Officer, Alfonso del Rey, attented the event, which main aim was to know the main trends and world challenges in the advanced materials field. 

Terrassa held on 6-7 March 2019 the first edition of the "Women, Science and Technology" (WSciTech19) Conference (Congrés de Dones, Ciència i Tecnologia) and the "Châtelet team" at ICMAB presented their dramatised lecture "Madame Châtelet and her Instagram followers" as a tool to visibilize the wise women in the history of science. Susagna Ricart and Anna May, in representation of the team, presented a Poster, and an Oral Communication, which resulted in a fantastic colloquium.

On Monday, 4 February 2019, the Paranimf of the Universitat de Barcelona hosted the 7th edition of the Interdisciplinary Meeting of Predoctoral Researchers (JIPI, Jornada d'Investigadors Predoctorals Interdisciplinària), organized by PhD fellows and supported by many entities and organizations, including the ICMAB-CSIC. M. Rosa Palacin was invited in the closing session of the event, in which some of our ICMAB PhD researchrers participated. 

The ICMAB will be present at the Conference about women, science and technology "Dones, Ciència i Tecnologia" presenting our dramatised lecture "Madame Châtelet and her Instagram followers" as a tool to enhance the visibility of the role of women scientists throughout history. 

The next conference cycle "Dilluns de Ciència" is about crystals and life. Two of the five conferences of the cycle will be given by two ICMAB researchers, Dra. Núria Aliaga (ICREA Reserach Professor) and Dr. Gerard Tobias (Tenured Scientist at ICMAB). All the talks will be at the "Residència d'Investigadors" at 6:30 pm, and will take place always on a Monday. The first talk is on January, 21, and the last one will be on April, 29, 2019. 

Alejandro Santos is the Librarian & Documentalist of ICMAB. His office is right inside the Manuel Cardona Library, at ICMAB. However, during his free time he is also a professional sketcher, and during the last years he has participated in numerous projects on "scientific sketching" in different research centers in the Barcelona Area. On Thursday, 20 December 2018, he gave a talk at the IMB-CNM-CSIC about sketching and science entitled "Sketching y Ciencia. Divulgando dibujando".

We announce the forthcoming 2019 E-MRS Spring Meeting and Exhibit, that will be held in Nice, France (Congress & Exhibition Centre Acropolis) from 27-31 May 2019. Alexander Ponrouch and Florencio Sánchez, ICMAB researchers, participate in the organization of some symposia in the fields of "materials for energy" and "nano-functional materials":

The next "Dilluns de Ciència" conference cycle will be in commemoration of the 150 years of the Periodic Table of the Elements. The talks will take place between April and June 2019 at the CSIC "Residència d'Investigadors", Mondays at 6:30 pm. On 27 May 2019, Gerard Tobias, ICMAB researcher, will talk about "Carbon: from the origin of life to nanoscience". 

The Phosphorus, Boron and Silicon (PBSi) Conference, held in Barcelona on 10-12 December 2018, counted with the participation of 150 scientists, and was chaired by Prof. Clara Viñas, from ICMAB-CSIC, and Prof. Evamarie Hey-Hawkings from Universität Leipzig. According to the participants, the conference was a great success!

The dynamic workshop on "Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Society and Graphic Design" will explore the use of methodologies of graphic design, such as design thinking, to open up new ways to bring nanoscience and nanotechnology closer to society in an efficient way.

Elies Molins, researcher at ICMAB at the Crystallography Group, was in charge of delivering the Inaugural Lecture at the "III Reunión de la Asociación Latinoamericana de Cristalografía y I Encuentro de la AChCr", in Valparaíso (Chile) on 10-12 October 2018. 

On Wednesday 12 December, Inspiraciencia organizes an OFF session in Barcelona. Anna Roig, from ICMAB, and member of the jury of the past Inspiraciencia edition, will take part in this event, which will start with a commented reading of some of the short texts presented in the Inspiraciencia contest. 

On Monday, 19 November 2018, the Vall d'Hebron hosts the seminar entitled "Lysosomal disorders, a focus on Fabry Disease", from 8:30 am to 6 pm. The NANOMOL group co-organizes the event, through the CIBER-BBN and the project Smart-4-Fabry, coordinated by Dr. Nora Ventosa. This seminar is organized within the framework of the project Smart-4-Fabry.

You’ll learn from ACS editors and local professionals tips and tools for publishing your research and sharing it with the public. You’ll hear from Prof. M. Rosa Palacín (ICMAB-CSIC) an Associate Editor of Chemistry of Materials, Prof. Juan Bisquert (INAM) a Senior Editor of Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters, and more!

On Thursday, 18 October, the inaugural session to inaugurate the RACAB academic course 2018-2019 will be given by Prof. Xavier Obradors, which will present the report entitled "Els nanomaterials per a la transició energètica" (Nanomaterials for the energetic transition). The conference will take place at the RACAB at 7 pm. 

The inaugural conference of the 2018-2019 course of the Societat Catalana de Física will be "Feynman i els seus diagrames: una aportació clau a la teoria quàntica de camps aportacions fonamentals" by Dr. Albert Bramon, Emeritus Professor of the Physics Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). 

"Comunicació Institucional: un joc d'estratègia". This was the title of the LAB IDEAS workshop at Campus Gutenberg 2018, which Anna May Masnou, Communication Officer at ICMAB, organized together with seven other Communication Officers of  research centers and institutions of the UAB Campus: Alexandra Canet (CVC), Àlex Argemí (ICN2), Pere Figuerola (ICP), Sebastián Grinschpun (IFAE), Isabel Lopera (ICTA), Ona Tribó (PRUAB) and Gemma Ortiga (PRUAB).

On Thursday, 20 September, Dra. Nora Ventosa, researcher at the NANOMOL group at ICMAB, and member of the Catalan Society of Chemistry (SCQ) will participate in the event organized by the SCQ and the University of Girona (UdG) at the Science Building of the UdG: "New challenges in chemistry: nanovesicles and biologic control of pests" (Jornada sobre nous reptes en química: nanovesícules i control biològic de plagues). 

Many ICMAB researchers from the Solid State Chemistry group are presenting their research on novel batteries configuations and electrochemistry at the 69th Annual Meeting of the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE) that takes places in Bologna (Italy) from 2 to 7 September 2018. 

On July 17, 2018, the fourth edition of "Científiques a prop" (Getting closer to scientists) organized by AMIT-CAT took place with great success in La Monroe de la Filmo. This edition counted with the participation of Ana M. López-Periago, from the ICMAB, who became second in the audience award, with her talk on "CO₂: hero or villain?", in which she talked about the benefits of using supercritical CO₂ in the preparation of materials. 

Xavier Obradors, Josep Fontcuberta and Gerard Tobias, participate at the 50 Universitat Catalana d'Estiu (UCE) "I tanmateix, la remor persisteix", which for the first time has an edition in Manresa. They will give some lectures within the program of science and technology: From quantum physics to nanotechnology (De la física quàntica a les nanotecnologies). The UCE in Manresa started on Thursday, 5 July, and will finish on Tuesday, 10 July. 

On June 7-9, 2018, Geneva (Switzerland) hosted the 29th edition of the Ecsite Annual Conference 2018. An event that gathered a record-breaking 1,182 professionals from 58 countries. The event was hosted by the Natural History Museum of Geneva in partnership with CERN, University of Geneva Scienscope, and Campus Biotech.

The International Conference On Phosphorus, Boron and Silicon – PBSi 2018 will take place in Barcelona on 10-12 December 2018. From chemistry to catalysis, materials, biology, and medicine, from theory to application, the main target of this conference is to gather Researchers and Experts in Phosphorus, Boron and Silicon community in order to provide all participants with the latest progress and inputs recorded in each field.

From May 30, to June 1, the UAB Jornades Doctorals, organized by the PhD Chemistry Program and the Chemistry Department, took place at the Sala d'Actes-Faculty of Sciences of the UAB. It is a great opportunity for PhD researchers to present their work, in a poster presentation and in an oral presentation. This year they celebrated the eighth edition. The event aims to strenghten the links between the research groups at the UAB Chemistry Department and between the nearby research centers, in order to promote interdisciplinary and more ambitious projects. 

On 21 March 2018, Teresa gave the talk "La superconductivitat: un fenomen quàntic que està contribuint al canvi energètic" (Superconductivity: a quantum phenomenon that is contributing to the energy change) at the Facultat de Ciències of the UAB, in an event organized by the Catalan Association of Physics Students (Associació Catalana d'Estudiants de Física) (12:15 pm, C3/022).

On Friday, 16 March 2018, the secondary school INS Mercè Rodoreda (Hospitalet de Llobregat) celebrated their "IV Scientific Day" (IV Jornada Científica) with scientific activities for their students, from 1st ESO to 2nd BTX. Núria Aliaga, ICREA Research Professor at ICMAB, was one of the invited speakers. She had the big challenge of talking about science to "Arts and Humanities" 3rd and 4th ESO students. 

Between March 13-15, 2018, Bilbao (Spain) hosts the 4th edition of the largest European Event in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, ImagineNano2018, at Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC), a 3 days event to discuss the latest in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology.

Researchers from the ICMAB will be at ImagineNano 2018, presenting some of the latest and cutting-edge research projects, involving bacterial nanocellulose, atomic force microscopy, photonic architectures and superabsorbers. The CSIC also has an exhibitor stand, in which the research on microelectronics and nanomaterials will be presented. 

It's that time of year when the annual APS March Meeting (APS for American Physical Society) takes place. A gathering of thousands of (mostly condensed matter) physicists. This year the meeting is in Los Angeles (California), between 5-9 March.
