Núria Crivillers, member of the jury at the "Certamen Jóvenes Investigadores" 2019

Núria Crivillers was in Mollina (Málaga) from 17 to 20 June 2019 to participate as member of the jury on the "Certamen Jóvenes Investigadores" in which young researchers presented their research projects. Núria Crivillers was in charge of evaluating the projects in the field of physics, chemistry and mathematics. The CSIC sponsors and offers various stays at their researh institutes as part of the awards.

The 9th Edition of the European Conference on Boron Chemistry (EuroBoron8) in Montpellier with the LMI group

The 9th European Conference on Boron Chemistry (EuroBoron9) will take place in Barcelona in 2022, and will be organized by ICMAB researchers, Rosario Núñez and Jose Giner. This year, on 24-28 June 2019, the researchers from the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Lab (LMI) participated in EuroBoron8 in Montpellier, presenting many posters and oral communications.

Vil·la Urània, 19 June 2019: Taula rodona: 'L'energia del futur o el futur de l'energia'

In the framework of the European Week of Sustainable Energy, experts from the field of energy transition will talk about the energy of the future and the social impact of the energetic system as we know it. Xavier Obradors, from the ICMAB will give an introductory talk. A roundtable with the participation of members of IREC, ICN2, ICFO, CNM, ICMAB and "Xarxa per la Sobirania Energètica" will follow.

Bologna, 11-13 SEPT 2019: Nano Scientific Forum Europe 2019

The University of Bologna and Park Systems are proud to announce the 2nd NanoScientific Forum Europe 2019 (NSFE 2019) on September 11 – 13, 2019. After the successful first edition in October 2018 at the TU Freiberg, Germany we are happy to invite scientists and researchers working in the field of Atomic Force Microscopy to beautiful Bologna. The Madame Châtelet Project presented at the Conference “Women, Science and Technology” in Terrassa

Terrassa held on 6-7 March 2019 the first edition of the "Women, Science and Technology" (WSciTech19) Conference (Congrés de Dones, Ciència i Tecnologia) and the "Châtelet team" at ICMAB presented their dramatised lecture "Madame Châtelet and her Instagram followers" as a tool to visibilize the wise women in the history of science. Susagna Ricart and Anna May, in representation of the team, presented a Poster, and an Oral Communication, which resulted in a fantastic colloquium.

M. Rosa Palacin in the closing session of the 7th edition of the JIPI meeting at the UB Paranimf

On Monday, 4 February 2019, the Paranimf of the Universitat de Barcelona hosted the 7th edition of the Interdisciplinary Meeting of Predoctoral Researchers (JIPI, Jornada d'Investigadors Predoctorals Interdisciplinària), organized by PhD fellows and supported by many entities and organizations, including the ICMAB-CSIC. M. Rosa Palacin was invited in the closing session of the event, in which some of our ICMAB PhD researchrers participated.

Núria Aliaga and Gerard Tobias participate in the talks cycle "Dilluns de ciència: Els cristalls i la Vida"

The next conference cycle "Dilluns de Ciència" is about crystals and life. Two of the five conferences of the cycle will be given by two ICMAB researchers, Dra. Núria Aliaga (ICREA Reserach Professor) and Dr. Gerard Tobias (Tenured Scientist at ICMAB). All the talks will be at the "Residència d'Investigadors" at 6:30 pm, and will take place always on a Monday. The first talk is on January, 21, and the last one will be on April, 29, 2019.

Alejandro Santos "El sketching no es ilustración científica" during his talk at IMB-CNM-CSIC

Alejandro Santos is the Librarian & Documentalist of ICMAB. His office is right inside the Manuel Cardona Library, at ICMAB. However, during his free time he is also a professional sketcher, and during the last years he has participated in numerous projects on "scientific sketching" in different research centers in the Barcelona Area. On Thursday, 20 December 2018, he gave a talk at the IMB-CNM-CSIC about sketching and science entitled "Sketching y Ciencia. Divulgando dibujando".

Barcelona, 27 May 2019: "El carboni: de l’origen de la vida a la nanociència" by Gerard Tobias #DillunsCiència #TaulaPeriòdica #aitp2019

The next "Dilluns de Ciència" conference cycle will be in commemoration of the 150 years of the Periodic Table of the Elements. The talks will take place between April and June 2019 at the CSIC "Residència d'Investigadors", Mondays at 6:30 pm. On 27 May 2019, Gerard Tobias, ICMAB researcher, will talk about "Carbon: from the origin of life to nanoscience".

CCCB, 9 April 2019: "Quantica" exhibition inauguration

The exhibition “Quantica” gives us the keys to understanding the principles of fundamental physics, and it does so through the joint creative work of scientists, educators and artists. The project invites the public to browse freely, to awaken their curiosity, and to critically evaluate the new paradigms of modern science. The inauguration will take place on Tuesday, 9 April 2019 at 7 pm at CCCB, and the exhibition will be open from 10 April to 24 September 2019.

Great success of the PBSi conference chaired by Clara Viñas and with a high participation of ICMAB researchers

The Phosphorus, Boron and Silicon (PBSi) Conference, held in Barcelona on 10-12 December 2018, counted with the participation of 150 scientists, and was chaired by Prof. Clara Viñas, from ICMAB-CSIC, and Prof. Evamarie Hey-Hawkings from Universität Leipzig. According to the participants, the conference was a great success!

The Smart4Fabry project presented at the "Lysosomal Rare Disorders" seminar at Vall d'Hebron

On November 19, Vall d’Hebron held a seminar on Lysosomal Rare Disorders: Focus on Fabry Disease as part of the Rare Diseases Program at the Vall d’Hebron Campus, in collaboration with the European Commission, the Center for Biomedical Research Network on Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) and the CIBBIM-Nanomedicine at Vall d Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) through the Smart-4-Fabry project, coordinated by Dr. Nora Ventosa, from ICMAB-CSIC and CIBER-BBN.

IEC, 26 SEPT 2018: Feynman i els seus diagrames: una aportació clau a la teoria quàntica de camps by Dr. Albert Bramon

The ICMAB was present at the #CGutenberg18 with a role play workshop on institutional communication

"Comunicació Institucional: un joc d'estratègia". This was the title of the LAB IDEAS workshop at Campus Gutenberg 2018, which Anna May Masnou, Communication Officer at ICMAB, organized together with seven other Communication Officers of  research centers and institutions of the UAB Campus: Alexandra Canet (CVC), Àlex Argemí (ICN2), Pere Figuerola (ICP), Sebastián Grinschpun (IFAE), Isabel Lopera (ICTA), Ona Tribó (PRUAB) and Gemma Ortiga (PRUAB).

Girona, 20 SEPT 2018: "New challenges in chemistry: nanovesicles and biologic control of pests"

Ana M. López-Periago, second prize at the science monologues contest "Científiques a prop"

On July 17, 2018, the fourth edition of "Científiques a prop" (Getting closer to scientists) organized by AMIT-CAT took place with great success in La Monroe de la Filmo. This edition counted with the participation of Ana M. López-Periago, from the ICMAB, who became second in the audience award, with her talk on "CO2: hero or villain?", in which she talked about the benefits of using supercritical CO2 in the preparation of materials.

Ana M. López-Periago at the IV edition of "Científiques a prop" organized by AMIT-CAT

AMIT-CAT (Associació de Dones Investigadores i Tecnòlogues a Catalunya) organizes the IV edition of "Científiques a prop" in La Monroe bar (Barcelona) on July 17, 2018, at 7 pm. This event consists of four scientific monologues given by four women researchers. Ana M. López-Periago, from ICMAB, will give the talk "CO2: here or villain?", in which she will explore the diverse funcionalities of CO2 for synthesis when you can control its properties.

«From quantum physics to nanotechnology» at the 50 Universitat Catalana d'Estiu in Manresa with ICMAB researchers

Xavier Obradors, Josep Fontcuberta and Gerard Tobias, participate at the 50 Universitat Catalana d'Estiu (UCE) "I tanmateix, la remor persisteix", which for the first time has an edition in Manresa. They will give some lectures within the program of science and technology: From quantum physics to nanotechnology (De la física quàntica a les nanotecnologies). The UCE in Manresa started on Thursday, 5 July, and will finish on Tuesday, 10 July.

Arpita Saha receives the 3rd prize for the Oral Communication at the UAB Jornades Doctorals 2018

From May 30, to June 1, the UAB Jornades Doctorals, organized by the PhD Chemistry Program and the Chemistry Department, took place at the Sala d'Actes-Faculty of Sciences of the UAB. It is a great opportunity for PhD researchers to present their work, in a poster presentation and in an oral presentation. This year they celebrated the eighth edition. The event aims to strenghten the links between the research groups at the UAB Chemistry Department and between the nearby research centers, in order to promote interdisciplinary and more ambitious projects.

Prof. Teresa Puig and the SUMAN group spreading the knowledge on superconductivity at the UAB

Prof. Teresa Puig, from the SUMAN group (Superconducting Materials and Large Scale Nanostructures) was invited to give a talk on superconducting materials at “Dissabtes de la Física on Saturday, 24 February 2018, at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. More than 100 secondary school students listened to her talk (10:00 am, Sala d'actes).

On 21 March 2018, Teresa gave the talk "La superconductivitat: un fenomen quàntic que està contribuint al canvi energètic" (Superconductivity: a quantum phenomenon that is contributing to the energy change) at the Facultat de Ciències of the UAB, in an event organized by the Catalan Association of Physics Students (Associació Catalana d'Estudiants de Física) (12:15 pm, C3/022).

Núria Aliaga participates at the "IV Scientific Day" of INS Mercè Rodoreda

On Friday, 16 March 2018, the secondary school INS Mercè Rodoreda (Hospitalet de Llobregat) celebrated their "IV Scientific Day" (IV Jornada Científica) with scientific activities for their students, from 1st ESO to 2nd BTX. Núria Aliaga, ICREA Research Professor at ICMAB, was one of the invited speakers. She had the big challenge of talking about science to "Arts and Humanities" 3rd and 4th ESO students.

The ICMAB presents its research at the largest Nano- European Event: ImagineNano2018

Between March 13-15, 2018, Bilbao (Spain) hosts the 4th edition of the largest European Event in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, ImagineNano2018, at Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC), a 3 days event to discuss the latest in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology.

Researchers from the ICMAB will be at ImagineNano 2018, presenting some of the latest and cutting-edge research projects, involving bacterial nanocellulose, atomic force microscopy, photonic architectures and superabsorbers. The CSIC also has an exhibitor stand, in which the research on microelectronics and nanomaterials will be presented.
