The field of materials science has emerged as a dynamic and rapidly evolving area of research. This sustained effort has yielded the creation of novel materials boasting remarkable complexity and sophistication. The comprehensive assessment of these innovative materials demands the utilization of advanced techniques and equipment.

The Thermal Analysis and Surface Area Analysis Service is used for the study of the behavior of materials when temperature changes under different conditions and atmospheres, and for studies of surface area and porosity. With this seminar we intend to explain when you can need the Service and how you can access it.

The Service-SOFT/U6 Nanbiosis together with the company NANE are organising a technical seminar on materials characterisation equipment. In this seminar, different techniques for the characterisation of particulate materials such as DLS, NTA, Laser Diffraction, Morphology will be discussed.

The short course will delve into orbitronics, the latest approach to understanding and exploiting angular momentum transport in solids. Both in-person and online registrations will be open from October 16th to November 20th, 2023.

Welcome to ARPES 2023, our Severo Ochoa School on Angle Resolved Photoemision Spectroscopy (ARPES): from fundamentals to the heart of condensed matter.

A school on photoelectron spectroscopy for beginners, organized by ICMAB-CSIC with the collaboration of ALBA Synchrotron, on 6-7 February 2023. 

In the era of Quantum Technologies, understanding and mapping electronic excitations has proved to be instrumental to identify emerging properties of matter. Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES) is a major tool to inspect the intricate playground of charge-spin lattice interactions and how they affect the properties of the electronic degrees of freedom.

Raquel Gimeno, from FunNanoSurf group at ICMAB, has won the Best Flash Talk award, and Jorik Waeterschoot, from KU Leuven, the second prize.

This Severo Ochoa workshop will take place at ICMAB on 6-7 October 2022.

EPNOE and ESEIA announce their first joint International Summer School that will take place in Barcelona from 11 to 15 July 2022.

The #JPhD2021, an event entirely organized by PhD fellows, grows larger with each edition, surpassing the 100 participants!

This hybrid workshop will be happening on Wednesday, 15 December 2021 at ICMAB and Online! STEM2021 is organized by ICMAB Researcher Jaume Gázquez, from the MULFOX Group at ICMAB, and is aimed at PhD fellows and researchers who have little to no experience with STEM imaging techniques and want to incorporate them on their research.

On 25-26 November 2021, the 6^th Scientific Meeting of PhD Students (JPhD2021), organized by PhD fellows of the ICMAB, IMB-CNM, ICN2 and the UAB takes place! This new edition will be HYBRID, representing a new and added challenge for the organizers and speakers. 

Researchers have until 15 January 2022 to submit their abstracts for EuroBoron9, organized this year by ICMAB researchers from the Inorganic Materials & Catalysis Group (LMI) group

The new workshop on phononics and thermal transport will take place on 18-19 October 2021 from ICMAB and online. Register before 11 October!

Heat transport is becoming increasingly important within the Research Line in Sustainable Energy Conversion and Storage Systems (RL1 at ICMAB).

Besides the fundamental scientific interest, learning how to modulate the heat flow has important applications in conventional electronics (where heat dissipation at the nanoscale is a major issue) or in the design of efficient thermoelectric materials (where materials with low thermal conductivities must be engineered).

The 2021 Journal Citation Reports (with data from 2020) has expanded coverage, a new metric, and a brand new interfaces that changes the user experience. 

For the first time, we organize a crystallization contest and encourage the partipation of all ICMABers!

A talk on entrepreneurship for scientists helps broaden the professional horizons of PhD Researchers

On 12 April 2021 the Gender Equality Committee organizes the course on inclusive language, given by the "Almena Cooperativa Feminista".

In the framework of the 10alamenos9 Festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, a Nanostories contest has been launched for high school students, from 3rd and 4th ESO and 1st and 2nd BTX. The idea is to write short stories of maximum 200 words in which nanoscience and nanotechnology are present. The deadline to participate is 5 April 2021. Go for it!

On 17-18 September 2020, the 5^th Scientific Meeting of PhD Students (JPhD2020), organized by PhD fellows of the ICMAB, IMB-CNM, ICN2 and the UAB takes place! This new edition is ONLINE, representing a challenge for the organizers and speakers. During two days, 4 invited speakers and more than 80 participants are connected and will be sharing their research in amazing fields. Good luck! 

On Monday, 24 February 2020, the workhop between ALBA and ICMAB scientists took place at the Maxwell Auditorium at the ALBA Synchrotron facilities. The idea of the meeting was clear: get the scientists of both centers to talk and create the seeds to start new project collaborations between both institutions. Do you want to know more?

On Friday, 6 November 2019, the ICMAB and Mettler Toledo organize a workshop for students and young researchers on Good Laboratory Practices. There will be three sessions on Spectrometry UV/Vis, Good Pipetting and Electrochemistry and pH. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued for each participant. Regiser before 14 October 2019! The session is especifically for Bachelor and Master Students and PhD fellows, although everyone is invited!

On Monday, 28 October 2019, the ICMAB staff, especially the new Master students and PhD and Postdoc fellows, are invited to the presentation of the Scientific Equipment Platforms (SEP) of the ICMAB. The 9 Scientific and Technical Services have prepared some posters to present their equipment and research techniques to the researchers to broaden up their research possibilities. We are sure that from this day, new and exciting collaborations will emerge.

On Wednesday, 23 October 2019, and to celebrate the Open Access Week, which is celebrated this week all over the world, we organized a seminar on "Open Access at ICMAB: Frequently Asked Questions". The seminar was for the Institute researchers to solve some doubts about publishing in Open Access, and organized by the ICMAB "Manuel Cardona" library. Read here more about it!

The Soft Lab, run by Amable Bernabé, has hosted from Monday, 7 October, to Wednesday, 9 October a course on "Characterization techniques for particulate materials". The course has counted with 12 participants from different CSIC centers (including ICMAB, IBM-CNM, ICM, IQAC...) and has introduced the participants to different techniques to characterize nanoparticles and other particulate matter, including the basic fundamentals, sample preparation, practical examples and results interpretation. 

The 1st EUSMI/NFFA-Europe Joint School on Data Management will take place in Trieste, Italy, on 10-11 December 2019. The course is in the framework of the NFFA-Europe project, which integrates 20 partners, including the ICMAB.
