On Monay, 10 July 2023, the ICMAB hosts a memorial event in the memory of Prof. Pablo Etchegoin(1964-2013), Argentine-New Zealand physicist.

June is known around the world as the LGBTQIA+ Pride Month in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots in June 1969 that started an LGBTQIA+ rights movement. It is internationally celebrated with marches, exhibitions, parades and festivals.

The #JPhD2023, an event entirely organized by PhD fellows, grows larger with each edition, surpassing the 110 participants!

The 2023 Fall Meeting of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS) will take place from September 18 to 21, 2023 at the main campus of the University of Technology in Warsaw (Poland) and will consist of parallel symposia with invited speakers, oral and poster presentations assorted by one plenary session to provide an international forum for discussing recent advances in the field of materials science. The conference will be augmented by an exhibition of products and services of interest to the conference participants.

On 29 and 30 May, and 2 June 2023, the XII Doctoral Workshop of the UAB PhD Programme in Chemistry takes place, with a very intersting programme!

The DONESNANO2023 conference is organized by AMIT-CAT, Association of Women Researchers and Technologists in Catalonia (AMIT-CAT) and is sponsored by the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC).

The conference will take place on Wednesday, 8 February 2023, at the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (IEC) in Barcelona.

DONESNANO2023 will be a meeting point to share experiences and knowledge in the field of nanoscience and nanotechnology.

Last Wednesday, 14 December, we celebrated Christmas at ICMAB. The event was in honour of Xavier Granados, Clara Viñas, and Francesc Teixidor, and included some surprises for all the staff! 

The morning started at 10:30 h with a session in which the three ICMAB researchers who retire this year: Xavier Granados, Clara Viñas, and Francesc Teixidor, talked about their first years at ICMAB.

With some questions from the audience, they talked about how and why they arrived at ICMAB, what was research like in the beginning of their research career, and how was, for example, the differences between women in science now and then. 

We have prepared a nice event with in honor of Xavier Granados, Clara Viñas and Francesc Teixidor, with our "Tió de Nadal". 

We welcome all students, technicians, researchers from universities, technological centers, start ups and companies to visit us on this day to see what we can do for your science!

A week of events to make the day to day at ICMAB safer.

EPNOE and ESEIA announce their first joint International Summer School that will take place in Barcelona from 11 to 15 July 2022.

The event is in the framework of #viquedonesPRBB and will take place on Tuesday, 8 February 2022, from 5 to 7 pm through Zoom online. 

The #JPhD2021, an event entirely organized by PhD fellows, grows larger with each edition, surpassing the 100 participants!

On 2-3 December 2021, the ICMAB Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meeting will take place to evaluate the research lines and the overall performance of the Institute. 

This hybrid workshop will be happening on Wednesday, 15 December 2021 at ICMAB and Online! STEM2021 is organized by ICMAB Researcher Jaume Gázquez, from the MULFOX Group at ICMAB, and is aimed at PhD fellows and researchers who have little to no experience with STEM imaging techniques and want to incorporate them on their research.

On 25-26 November 2021, the 6^th Scientific Meeting of PhD Students (JPhD2021), organized by PhD fellows of the ICMAB, IMB-CNM, ICN2 and the UAB takes place! This new edition will be HYBRID, representing a new and added challenge for the organizers and speakers. 

Researchers have until 15 January 2022 to submit their abstracts for EuroBoron9, organized this year by ICMAB researchers from the Inorganic Materials & Catalysis Group (LMI) group

The new workshop on phononics and thermal transport will take place on 18-19 October 2021 from ICMAB and online. Register before 11 October!

Heat transport is becoming increasingly important within the Research Line in Sustainable Energy Conversion and Storage Systems (RL1 at ICMAB).

Besides the fundamental scientific interest, learning how to modulate the heat flow has important applications in conventional electronics (where heat dissipation at the nanoscale is a major issue) or in the design of efficient thermoelectric materials (where materials with low thermal conductivities must be engineered).

The 6^th Edition of the Scientific Meeting of PhD Students at UAB campus #JPhD2021 will be celebrated on November 25-26 2021, as a hybrid even held both online and at the Faculty of Science of the UAB. The registration for this even is already open and you have until 15 October 2021 to send your application! Please follow the instructions on the website to submit your application.

After last year’s party being cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, we were stoked to be able to finally celebrate again!

The 2021 ICMAB Party was celebrated after more than a year without live events due to the collective efforts to stop the spread of COVID. The party was not without changes, as it was celebrated entirely at ICMAB’s terrace to avoid concentrations of people inside. We celebrated on 16 July 2021 with many events, including the first CRYSTALMATCH contest, the awards ceremony for the FOTICMAB contest, the BEFORE&NOW photo activity, a tie dye workshop by Sara Ruiz, Nerea González and Lídia Ballell, a sketching workshop by Alejandro Santos, and the final of the Tennis Table tournament!

The online nanoGe Spring Meeting is a unique series of symposia focused on advanced materials preparation and fundamental properties and their applications, in fields such as renewable energy (photovoltaics, batteries), lighting, semiconductor quantum dots, 2-D materials synthesis and semiconductors fundamentals, bioimaging, etc.

On 3-4 December 2020, the ICMAB Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meeting will take place to evaluate the research lines and the overall performance of the Institute. The SAB is composed of 12 worldwide scientific experts in the areas of the targeted research of our Severo Ochoa project: Smart Functional Materials for a Better Future (FUNFUTURE) in the areas of Clean Energy, Sustainable Electronics and Smart Nanomedicine.

We announce the ICMAB "summer" school on “Optically Controlled Ferroelectric Memristors" (OPTOFEM 2020) goes Online! The School will finally take place on October, 22-23, 2020, in an online format, due to the current COVID-19. Great and experienced lectureres from around the world will participate. Register now before October 11, 2020 to attend! 

It is a pleasure to announce the 5^th Scientific Meeting of PhD Students at UAB Campus (JPhD2020), organized by PhD fellows of the ICMAB, IMB-CNM, ICN2 and the UAB, which will be held ONLINE during September 17-18, 2020. This scientific meeting of PhD students is mainly addressed to PhD students of any year, who are interested in sharing their research and connecting with other research groups. Master's and undergraduate students are welcome to participate as well. Send your abstracts before 31 July 2020! Extended deadline: 15 August 2020!

A jury formed by specialists in science and dissemination will decide on the contest winners, who will be announced on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at a ceremony where the finalist nanostories will be read. The contest is part of the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Festival, 10alamenos9, which aims to bring this science closer to young audiences. POSTPONED! We proudly announce the ICMAB summer school on “OPTICALLY CONTROLLED FERROELECTRIC MEMRISTORS” (OPTOFEM2020). The School will finally take place on October, 22-23, 2020, at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), since it was postponed due to the COVID-19. Deadline for registration is September 2, 2020. 

On Friday, 6 November 2019, the ICMAB and Mettler Toledo organize a workshop for students and young researchers on Good Laboratory Practices. There will be three sessions on Spectrometry UV/Vis, Good Pipetting and Electrochemistry and pH. A Certificate of Attendance will be issued for each participant. Regiser before 14 October 2019! The session is especifically for Bachelor and Master Students and PhD fellows, although everyone is invited!

On Monday, 28 October 2019, the ICMAB staff, especially the new Master students and PhD and Postdoc fellows, are invited to the presentation of the Scientific Equipment Platforms (SEP) of the ICMAB. The 9 Scientific and Technical Services have prepared some posters to present their equipment and research techniques to the researchers to broaden up their research possibilities. We are sure that from this day, new and exciting collaborations will emerge.
