A workshop on Ethics and Responsible Research & Innovation in Research takes place on March 16, 2018, at ICMAB. Responsible Research & Innovation (RRI) is a concept that has gained visibility and importance in the recent years, and involves the participation of multiple actors (researchers, citizens, policy makers, business, third sector organisations, etc. ) in the research and innovation process, enabling easier access to scientific results, the take up of gender and ethics in the research and innovation content and process, and formal and informal science education.
Technologies for Oxide Electronics School 2018 will be organized by the ICMAB and will be held in Hotel Eden Roc, Sant Feliu, Spain 15-17th March 2018, right after the COST TO-BE Spring Meeting on "Towards Oxide Electronics".
The 10alamenos9 Festival of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology arrives to its 3rd edition! On April 2018, more than 1,000 participants (around 700 secondary school students, 150 primary school students), will participate in the more than 70 activities prepared by all the entities collaborating in this macro-event, that takes place in Barcelona, Zaragoza, Valencia, Bilbao and Madrid.
Bilbao (Spain) will host the 4th edition of the largest European Event in Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, ImagineNano, at Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC): March 13-15, 2018.
The COST TO-BE Spring Meeting 2018 will be organized by the ICMAB and will be held in Hotel Eden Roc, Sant Feliu, Spain 12-14th March 2018. The meeting, which will be the last one of the series organised by the TO-BE consortium, will be the stage for the presentation of the contents of the Roadmap "Towards oxide electronics" prepared within the context of TO-BE Cost Action.
On Monday, July 16, 2018, the first ICMAB-CRAG meeting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm at CRAG Auditorium. The goal of this meeting is to promote new collaborations among researchers from the ICMAB and the CRAG, facilitating the exchange of knowledge among different scientific fields and exploring new approaches to address complex questions. Everyone is invited!

My name is Karen Lizzette Velásquez Méndez. I have a BSc in Chemistry from the National University of Colombia. Now, I'm a student of the Oficial Master in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biomedicine in the UAB.
In the ICMAB, I'm working in the Solid State Chemistry Research Group in the proyect "Synthesis and electronic properties of perovskite type oxynitrides" led by Dra. Amparo Fuertes. I like to meet new places and read in my free time.
The X edition of the GEFES meeting will take place in Valencia, 24th – 26th January, 2018. On December 15 the Institut Bisbe Sevilla, from Calella, visited ICMAB and spent the morning with us. Marta Mas-Torrent, researcher at the NANOMOL group gave the seminar on "Nanomaterials of the future for electronics", in which she first introduced the scientific career and the concepts of nanoscience and nanotechnology, and then showed the students her research in this field.

The last issue (number 16) of the Digital CSIC journal "CSIC Abierto" includes two interviews with ICMAB's Documentalist and Librarian, Alejandro Santos, and with ICMAB Researcher at the NANOPTO Group, Dr. Mariano Campoy-Quiles. The interviews deal with the Open Access mandates adopted by the funding agencies and the experience at ICMAB on accomplishing these mandates.
This current 12-month Index, corresponding to year 2016, shows Barcelona's leading institutions for high-quality science ordered by the number of articles published (AC) in a list of science journals, and the number of authors of each institution, considering the percentage of authorship in each article (WFC) (with the correction of the centers dedicated to space science, which have a lot of coauthrs in the articles).

The physicists Xavier Obradors, ICMAB Director, and Ignasi Ribas, Director of the Institute of Space Studies of Catalonia (Institut d'Estudis Espacials de Catalunya, IEEC), gave a joint lecture for the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the Institute "Lluís de Peguera" in Manresa (26 October 2017), in which they both went as students. Their dialogue "From nanoscience to space" was followed by an enthusiast audience eager to learn.

Anna Roig, researcher at the Nanoparticles and Nanocomposites (NN) group, participated on November 30 at the MetDrugs meeting, this time focused on nanostructures and metal-drugs complexes for biomedical applications. Anna's talk was entitled “Iron oxide nanoparticles come in all flavours”. The scientific meeting was organized by the MetDrugs network and ICN2.

This year, to celebrate Christmas, on Tuesday, December 19, we will have with us Xavier Roqué, Senior Lecturer in History of Science at UAB and member of the Phylosophy Dept. and of the Center for the History of Science (UAB). Xavier will give a Christmas Lecture entitled "Re-reading Curie", in which he will suggest new readings of, probably, the best-known woman scientist of the twentieth century: Marie Skłodowska Curie.
After the seminar, there will be the traditional Christmas Concert by the ICMAB choir and the Christmas Buffet for all our staff.
