Cybermetrics Lab is a research group integrated in the Centre for Human and Social Sciences (CCHS) of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). The head of the group is Isidro F. Aguillo. 

The ranking is compiled in a simple way, according to the h-index of the researcher. It contains 8208 researchers with affiliation and/or e-mail address from the following research organisations: CSIC (including the integrated organisations INIA, IEO, IGME), ISCIII (CNIO, CNIC), INTA and IAC. The data corresponds to the second week of December 2024.

205 researchers of ICMAB appear in this year's ranking, based on the public Google Scholar profiles. In the 2020 edition, there were 118 researchers in the list. 

"Google Scholar is by far the most widely used academic database in the world. If you have a profile, you will appear in the Internet searches that are made and, as it is a free database, you have a wider readership base. It is also the largest database, three times larger than Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus, so there is much more information and more diversity, and many (MANY!) more citations than in those sources" explains Isidro F. Aguillo, from the Cybermetrics Lab and responsible for this ranking.

16 of the 205 ICMAB researchers in the ranking are included in the top 800, the best 10 % of the total number of researchres. From this 16 researchers, 11 are men (69 %) and 5 women (31 %). The list is the following:

Isidro F. Aguillo affirms that "the ranking aims to increase transparency and promote the use of open identifiers, both ORCID and RoR".
