Even if we cannot go to schools face-to-face, ICMAB researchers have "visited" some schools using online platforms during these last months. For us it is important to still go to schools, to knock down the walls between young students and scientists, "for most of them it is the first time they meet someone who works as a researcher" says Judit Morlà Folch, one of the researchers who has participated.

During the Science Week 2019, in November, six of our researchers brought scientific research closer to the young students aged 15-17 years old within the framework of the programme "A researcher in your classroom". They went to five different highschools and gave a talk to the students, who had the opportunity to learn more about nanoscience and nanotechnology and about what is it like to be a scientist.

The CSIC Delegation in Catalunya wants to contribute to the promotion of scientific vocations in young girls, and facilitate the contact between them and the scientists from the nearby research centers. For this reason, an educational action in the framework of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (11 February) is organized, consisting on school visits by some CSIC researchers, who will explain their research projects and their life as a scientist to primary school students.

Andrés Gómez has spent one hour and a half with students aged 10-11 years old (5è de Primària) at the Sant Joan Baptista school, in La Barceloneta (Barcelona) on 29 November 2017. Andrés Gómez, specialist and responsible for the Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM) laboratory at ICMAB, explained the kids the mysteries of science, nanotechnology, and even made some lab experiments.
