On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the CSIC Women and Science Committee and the CSIC Delegate Committee for Equality have prepared the following joint communication.
The ICMAB Gender Equality Committee at ICMAB works to ensure that there are no inequalities or discriminations for reasons of gender, race, age, nationality at ICMAB, is the main consultation point for anyone who has any issue regarding these topics, and makes available all the resources and tools (from CSIC, MCIN...) to the ICMAB staff and provides training in the matter, so they know what to do when something related to work or sexual harassment, inequalities, bias, or any other discrimination happens.

Zero tolerance for any kind of harassment at work or sexual herrassment
Sexual or gender-based harassment in the workplace is also a form of gender-based violence that finds some of its foundations in discrimination based on sex. Research shows that only 1% of cases of sexual or gender-based harassment are usually reported, despite the fact that more than 1,400,000 women have been sexually harassed in the workplace. There is evidence that young women are the most vulnerable and that there are significant differences between people's perceptions of what is and is not sexual or gender-based harassment.
The CSIC Delegate Committee for Equality, the CSIC Women and Science Committee and the Equality Committees of the CSIC centers present a firm commitment to any manifestation of gender-based violence in the workplace. On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women (25 November), we strongly remind that any type of behavior (verbal, non-verbal or physical) of a sexual nature, whose purpose or effect is to violate the dignity of a person is not allowed, particularly when it creates an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment, whether voluntarily or involuntarily.
It is everyone's job to improve the prevention, detection and intervention of sexual and gender-based harassment in our institutes and centers. In this sense, training is key when it comes to knowing the tools to prevent and, if necessary, to act in an agile, clear, decisive and rigorous way. For this reason, we especially request that both the management staff and the members of the Equality Committees enroll in the training courses on Prevention of sexual and gender-based harassment.
Protocols and other documentation
All managers of the centers have the responsibility to act immediately before any act of physical, sexual and psychological violence against women, to ensure an environment free of harassment in the workplace. For this purpose, in addition to the recently approved III Equality Plan, there are different tools developed by the CSIC available on the intranet (intranet.csic.es/igualdad), which we would like to remind here for the knowledge of all staff:
- A Protocol for Prevention and Intervention against sexual harassment and harassment based on sex
- A model complaint form for sexual harassment or harassment based on sex, downloadable from the intranet. Any complaint can be sent to the e-mail address provided for this purpose:
