An evening of science! ICMAB at the Festa de la Ciència 2021
Scientists and researchers showed experiments and gave talks through the streets of Barcelona last Sunday as the last leg of the Biennal Ciutat i Ciència de Barcelona.

The second edition of the Biennal Ciutat i Ciència de Barcelona closed a whole week of activities around the whole range of scientific knowledge with the Festa de la Ciència, a day of workshops, demonstrations, talks, and more around the Barceloneta beach. The program was developed with universities, research centers, scientific institutions, companies and scientific communicators to present 121 activities with 187 participants and 95 institutions, representing all kinds of science.
Amongst those activities were two ICMAB events that made materials science more approachable.
Pamela Machado, from the Superconducting and Large Scale Nanostructres (SUMAN) Group, gave a microtalk as part of the NEW TECHNOLOGIES microtalk series at the Institut de Ciències del Mar (ICM-CSIC).

Her talk discussed the new materials based on perovskites for the transition to a more sustainable and renewable energy model, with a focus on the new materials that can transform solar energy into electricity more efficiently than the ones based in Silicon.
Later in the afternoon, Anna Crespi, from the X-Ray Diffraction Service, and Judith Oró, from the Electron Microscopy Service, showcased the properties of minerals in a hands on demonstration as part of the MATTER AND MATERIALS demos and workshops at the Parc de la Barceloneta.

Their experiments showcased fluorescence, magnetism, electric conductivity, and more, using household items like matches, tonic water, soap, or cables, as well as a good amount of magnets!
Thank you to all the participants, organizers and researchers who participated in the event.
