El proper any 2017 se celebren 50 anys del Journal of Physics. Com a part de les celebracions s'ha fet un recull dels articles més importants publicats a tota la sèrie de revistes: Condensed Matter (JPCM), Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics i Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics (aquestes dues últimes es van fusionar per formar JPCM el 1989).
S’han escollit 12 articles d’autors com Anderson, Pendry, i Kosterlitz i Thouless (Premis Nobel de Física de 2016), entre d’altres.
L’article “The SIESTA method for ab initio order-N materials simulation” publicat l’any 2002 per l’Alberto Garcia i el Pablo Ordejón, aleshores investigador de l’ICMAB, ha estat seleccionat en primera posició dins aquest llistat d’articles.
Des de la seva publicació el 8 de Març de 2002 a la revista Condensed Matter, aquest article acumula un nombre de 4.442 cites i ha estat descarregat en 18.258 ocasions.

An ICMAB article chosen as one of the most influential of the past 50 years
The SIESTA method article has been chosen in first position of the list of the most important articles published in the Journal of Physics of the Institute of Physics.
2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the Journal of Physics series. As part of the celebrations a look back at some of the most important papers published across the series of journals has been done: Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter (JPCM), Journal of Physics C: Solid State Physics and Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics (the latter two merged to form JPCM in 1989).
12 papers were selected from authors such as Anderson, Pendry, and Kosterlitz and Thouless (Nobel Prize in Physics 2016), among others.
