From May 30, to June 1, the UAB Jornades Doctorals, organized by the PhD Chemistry Program and the Chemistry Department, took place at the Sala d'Actes-Faculty of Sciences of the UAB. It is a great opportunity for PhD researchers to present their work, in a poster presentation and in an oral presentation. This year they celebrated the eighth edition. The event aims to strenghten the links between the research groups at the UAB Chemistry Department and between the nearby research centers, in order to promote interdisciplinary and more ambitious projects.
The "Jornades Doctorals 2018" included talks by 3rd and 4th year PhD researchers and three lectures by academic experts: Prof. Dr. Cristoph Janiak (University of Düsseldorf), Prof. Dr. Guillem Aromí (IN2UB) and Dra. Sílvia Osuna Oliveras (Universitat de Girona).
Prof. Clara Viñas was a member of the organizing, scientific and prizes committee. She is Vocal of the PhD and Master Studies Committee of the PhD Chemistry Program of the UAB.
Arpita Saha, from the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Lab at ICMAB-CSIC. won the 3rd prize of the Oral presentations with the talk "Biomimetic core-canopy quantum dots: ions trapped in voids induce kinetic fluorescence switching". The first and second prizes were for Gisela Cabré (UAB) "Optimised azobenzene photoswitches for reliable two-photon neuronal excitation" and Joaquim Peña (UAB) for the talk "Designing water-soluble sulfonate and arginine-rich bioconjugated Cu(II) complexes with anticancer properties. A redox-active metallic core".
From ICMAB we had many contributions, especially from the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Lab.
