BCN, 8-10 NOV 2019: Talks and workshops about minerals and the periodic table at EXPOMINER!
For another year, the ICMAB will be present at EXPOMINER (8-10 November, Palau 1, Fira Barcelona), with more activities and talks! Come and listen to the amazing talks by our researchers Ana M. López Periago and Rosario Núñez. They will talk about the applications of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and boron-based comounds! And in our stand, you will have the opportunity to play with minerals and the periodic table, in this year, in which we commemorate the 150 anniversary of the Periodic Table of Dmitri Mendeleev! Don't miss it!
"Elementos de la primera serie de transición: Minerales y mucho más"
Dr. Ana M. López-Periago
We will taks about minerals, metals and metal organic frameworks (MOFs): a highly porous structures formed by an organic part and a metal. Come and discover all their potential applications!
Saturday, 9 November 2019
10:50 am - 11:10 am
"La excentricidad del boro: bórax, hidruros de boro y emisión de luz"
Dr. Rosario Núñez
Bor is an element of the periodic table that is used in many applications, due to its excellent properties. Did you know that some of the boron compounds can emit light! Come and discover how we can apply this fantastic property to nanomedicine!
Saturday, 9 November 2019
12:10 pm - 12:30 pm
And the following related workshops for all the family, on Friday (from 10 am to 5 pm) and on Saturday and Sunday (from 10 am to 2 pm), with Judith Oró, Anna Crespi and Roberta Ceravola.

The minerals and the periodic table: Discover their properties
Through the periodic table of the chemical elements we will discover some of the spectacular properties presented by the minerals. Come to celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table with us!
The minerals in your cell phone
Do you know that your phone contains more than 30 elements of the periodic table that have been extracted from a wide variety of different minerals? By means of technological objects of our daily life we will discover the great number of minerals that have been used to construct them.
Make your own rock!
Come and make your rock! With this workshop, you can build a rock model with the objective of knowing its origin and the minerals that make it up.
The revolutionary material: graphene
Do you know what graphene is? And do you know for which applications can it be used? In this workshop we will see how we can obtain this famous material, and we will also see some of its applications and amazing properties.
