Calcium-based batteries featured in Nature Research Chemistry Community to celebrate the #IYPT2019

The paper “Towards a calcium-based rechargeable battery” published in Nature Materials in 2016 has been featured in the interactive periodic table, associated with the element Calcium (Ca). This interactive has been put together in celebration of the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT), and showcases important and interesting papers chosen by the Nature Materials editors from 150 years of original research published in Nature and the Nature Research journals. Now, a retrospective style blog post featuring the paper written by M. Rosa Palacín has been published in the Nature Reserach Chemistry Community, in the #IYPT2019 channel.

The Nature Research Chemistry Community, a forum for sharing wider discussion, ideas and experiences, invited M. Rosa Palacín, the corresponding author of the paper, to contribute a retrospective style blog post on the paper "Towards a calcium-based rechargeable battery" published in Nature Materials in 2016. The idea was to know what happened since the paper was published, how it was received, how the research in that area has changed or developed, and how did it impact important research decisions or initiate new collaborations.

This article by M. Rosa Palacín has now been published in the #IYPT2019 special "2019 is the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements" and is entitled like the manuscript "Towards a calcium-based rechargeable battery".

The Interactive Periodic Table

To celebrate the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements, Nature editors have curated research papers, commentaries and multimedia from Nature and the Nature Research journals. You can dive in to find out what connects sodium with Sri Lanka, how many times astatine was discovered and where the White House got its name... And much more!

After last year’s party being cancelled due to the COVID pandemic, we were stoked to be able to finally celebrate again! The 2021 ICMAB Party was celebrated after more than a year without live events due to the collective efforts to stop the spread of COVID. The party was not without changes, as it was celebrated entirely at ICMAB’s terrace to avoid concentrations of people inside. We celebrated on 16 July 2021 with many events, including the first CRYSTALMATCH contest, the awards ceremony for the FOTICMAB contest, the BEFORE&NOW photo activity, a tie dye workshop by Sara Ruiz, Nerea González and Lídia Ballell, a sketching workshop by Alejandro Santos, and the final of the Tennis Table tournament!
