Abstract
In this talk, I will present an overview of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (IIIA-CSIC), highlighting its mission, structure, and scientific contributions. I will outline the institute’s main research lines, which span from fundamental AI topics such as machine learning, reasoning, and knowledge representation, to applied areas including multiagent systems, ethics, and AI for social good. A particular emphasis will be placed on recent advances across three strategic domains. First, I will discuss developments in machine learning with applications in healthcare, illustrating how novel algorithms are contributing to more accurate treatment support. Second, I will present recent work in multiagent systems, focusing on value-sensitive design and its role in fostering fair and trustworthy collaboration, with practical use cases in education and beyond. Finally, I will review results in logic-based reasoning. Through these examples, I will illustrate the IIIA’s commitment to advancing both the science and the responsible use of artificial intelligence.
