8th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE8)

This Sunday, 26 May 2019, the 8th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE8) starts at the World Trade Center, and will last until 31 May 2019. Six days devoted to the instrumentation, science and applications of spectroscopic ellipsometry and related techniques, and with a high participation of ICMAB researchers. The Conference Chair is M. Isabel Alonso, from the ICMAB-CSIC.

Welcome Message by M. Isabel Alonso, Conference Chair:

The International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE) is the largest and best-known international conference on spectroscopic ellipsometry and related techniques.

Since the first ICSE held in 1993, the conference has been the place where new advances and developments in ellipsometry are discussed with a variety of international participants from many different countries. ICSE Conferences were initially held at variable intervals. Their increasing success made clear that spectroscopic ellipsometry attracted a great interest. Consequently, since 2007, the series has been convened as a triennial meeting. Previous ICSE Conferences were ICSE-1, held in Paris, France (1993); ICSE-2, Charleston, USA (1997); ICSE-3, Vienna, Austria (2003); ICSE-4, Stockholm, Sweden (2007); ICSE-V, Albany, USA (2010); ICSE-VI, Kyoto, Japan (2013); and ICSE-7, Berlin, Germany (2016).

This year, the 8th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE-8) is held in Barcelona and it continues the well-established series to provide an excellent forum for scientists and engineers working in instrumentation, science and applications of spectroscopic ellipsometry and related techniques. In ICSE-8, roughly 300 abstracts have been accepted, and there are 9 industrial Sponsors from different countries. Support is also obtained from three local academic Sponsors and ICSE-8 is a Sponsored Topical Conference of the AVS.

The conference venue of ICSE-8 is the World Trade Center on Barcelona’s downtown sea front, in one of the most charming parts of the Old Harbor. Its emblematic situation will provide a unique and stimulating environment for all conference participants. We expect that both young and experienced researchers will interact for dissemination, discussion, and advancement of science and technology topics represented in ICSE-8. Following the high standards set by previous conferences, ICSE-8 will present a useful balance of fundamental and applied research and industrial applications.

In addition, a day of Tutorials will be organized on Sunday, 26th of May, to provide an introductory session which will also be a tribute to Prof. Manuel Cardona, who was born in Barcelona. This year, on the fifth anniversary of his passing, we honor his memory as a key figure in the history of ICSE Conferences. I would like to express my gratitude to all Committee Members for their continued support. Starting with the selection of Barcelona as ICSE-8 hosting city through all the help and advice received until the Conference is held. I also wish to acknowledge the Sponsors for their generous support. And finally, I would like to emphasize that it is a great honor to host the prestigious ICSE in Barcelona welcoming outstanding scientists from all over the world.
