Last Friday, 29 November of 2024, Professor Clara Viñas received an award for 'her distinguished career' from the Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ).
The ceremony was held at the Paranimf of Extremadura University in Badajoz, Spain.
Apart from Prof. Clara Viñas, the other awardees were the following:

On her acceptance speech, Prof. Viñas said: 'I've had the fortune of working with exceptional people, that with their dedication and support have made possible everything achieved. [...] My most sincere thanks to CSIC and the Institut de Ciència de Materials de Barcelona, my professional home, where I've developed a great part of my work. It is a space that not only impulses the scientific research, but creates an atmosphere of support, activity and innovation'.
About Clara Viñas
Prof. Clara Viñas graduated in Chemistry at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1975 and in Pharmacy at the Universitat de Barcelona in 1980. She worked at Prof. Rudolph’s laboratory at The University of Michigan for a year. Back to Barcelona, she worked for industry and later moved to Laboratori Municipal de Sabadell where she became the director on food and environmental control. She got her PhD in Pharmacy under the supervision of Prof. F. Teixidor at the Universitat de Barcelona in 1990. She joined the CSIC staff as tenured scientist in 1991. She promoted to research scientist in 2002 and to research professor in 2006. Since 2023 she is Professor Ad Honorem at ICMAB-CSIC. Her research interests are in the design and synthesis of novel Boron compounds, carboranes and metallacarboranes, to be applied in medicine, biosensors, sustainable environment and energy.

The Royal Spanish Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) aims to promote, develop and disseminate the discipline of Chemistry, both as a pure science and in its applications, throughout Spain. The RSEQ is the continuation in the branch of Chemical Sciences of the Royal Spanish Society of Physics and Chemistry, founded in 1903, and its aim is to facilitate the advancement and improvement of its scientific, teaching, research and professional activity in the field of Chemical Sciences and Chemical Engineering. As a scientific, non-governmental and non-profit institution, it seeks to provide the means to satisfy the scientific needs of its members.
