Fantastic edition of the JPhD2023 doctoral meeting
The #JPhD2023, an event entirely organized by PhD fellows, grows larger with each edition, surpassing the 110 participants!

The JPhD 2023 is the 7th edition of a Scientific Meeting that brings together PhD researchers from the members of the Barcelona Nanocluster-Bellaterra (BNC-b): the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Institut de Microelectrònica de Barcelona. Centre Nacional de Microelectrònica (IMB-CNM), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC).

The JPhD 2023 started as a small gathering of PhD fellows of ICMAB 12 years ago has grown into an outstanding platform for networking and scientific communication.
After last years' hybrid event, organizers were happy to be able to bring #JPhD2023 in a in-person format at ICMAB, both at the Sala d’Actes Carles Miravitlles and the Sala d'Actes Matgas, with a poster session and coffee breaks at the ICMAB garden.

On 7 and 8 June, PhD researchers enjoyed invited lectures by reknown scientists, oral presentations by their PhD fellows, a live poster session, and two roundtables. This years' edition was also followed by an extra day visit to ALBA Synchrotron. Among the invited speakers, the event counted with ICMAB researcher Anna Laromaine, who gave the talk "Harnessing the Power of C. elegans for Nanoparticle lnnovation and Progress". Other invited speakers were Elisabetta Dimaggio, from the University of Pisa, Maria Bernechea, from ARAID, Jordi Arbiol, from ICN2 and Lucía Alballe, from ALBA Synchrotron.
The topic of the roundtables were "Career Perspectives" and counted with spekers from both the academia and the industry, and "Planning your career" with speakers who are doing research in a reserach center, in spin offs or who are working in a Publisher.
The closing event at the end of two intense days was the awards ceremony: a jury composed by members of the organizing committee voted for the best presentation, and the participants at the meeting voted for the best poster. The winners received fantastic prizes, as shown below:

The previous edition of the JPhD already broke all previous records with more than 100 attendants, and this year participation has gone even higher, with 112 participants in total. Of those, 57 participatns gave a talk during the two days of the event (in parallel sessions on the first day), and 23 presented a poster in the poster session.
The contributions were from all the different topics offered in the meeting, with more participants in the "Energy and Environment" area (33), and less in "Nanomaterials and magnetism" (15).
