The celebration began with a talk entitled “Does nature have superpowers?”, by Nico Dix and Anna Laromaine, where they talked about how nature inspires the creation of new materials. With this talk, they filled the auditorium of the Cultural Center.
Next, the young ones enjoyed several workshops, such as “Busca l’inspirador” (Find the inspirer), “Les sorres del món” (Sands of the Earth), “Toca i endevina” (Touch and guess), “Les propietats dels materials naturals” (The properties of materials from nature) and “Geometria de la natura” (Geometries in nature). The workshops were conducted by the students of the José Echegaray School, who spent the morning preparing them with the researchers Anna Crespi, Judith Oró, Roberta Ceravola and Stefania Sandoval. With this activities, they were able to show the citizens of Martorell that science can be fun and open to everyone.
To end the date on a sweet note, the participants of the workshops received a ticket that they could exchange for a glass of chocolate. The European Research Night in Martorell was a unique opportunity to demonstrate how nature can inspire surprising technological innovations.
The activity was framed within the European Researchers' Night, an event dedicated to the dissemination of science that takes place in 300 cities in 30 countries in Europe. In Catalonia, from September 7 to October 4, researchers from more than 50 scientific entities offered talks, workshops and other free activities to all audiences.
About the Magnet program
The José Echegaray School and the ICMAB-CSIC are partners through the Magnet program of the Jaume Bofill Foundation. The celebration of the Nit de la Recerca is one more step to develop the relationship between center and school, at the beginning of the second year of the 4 that this collaboration will go on. During the time that Magnet alliances last, an innovative and attractive educational project is developed that allows centers to attract families in their surroundings and thus increase their heterogeneity.
