About ICMAB
The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is a multidisciplinary research center focused on cutting-edge research in functional advanced materials in the fields of ENERGY, ELECTRONICS, NANOMEDICINE and application fields yet to imagine.
The ICMAB, which is already more than three decades old, keeps its initial enthusiasm in generating new knowledge in materials science research, and transferring it to the society and the industry. We are located at the Universiat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) campus, surrounded by other research and technological centres and with access to many state-of-the art equipment and scientific facilities. With over 300 members, it is a very attractive place to work for young researchers.
Our R&D activities are strongly backed up by state-of-the-art scientific instrumentation and specialised technical staff available in our scientific services. We are ready and able to deploy R&D activities at the forefront of international knowledge.
The ICMAB is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence since 2016, and it is one of the top research centers in Spain in Materials Science, the renewed seal of excellence 2020-2023 is based on the project “Materials Transition for Tomorrow's world" (MATRANS42).
The associated research programme brings together the researchers in three research lines:
- Materials for Electronics → Developing advanced materials for electronic applications, including molecular electronics and oxide-based systems.
- Materials for Energy → Focusing on sustainable energy storage, superconductivity, and conversion technologies.
- Materials for Health → Innovations in bioactive materials, theranostics, and biomedical applications.
Requirements of the candidates
Doctoral research staff of recognized prestige who possess the suitability and appropriate professional qualification for the exercise of the functions inherent to the position, and may be staff belonging to the CSIC or external staff linked to the CSIC through an agreement or other instrument that provides for it.
Documentation to be provided
Letter of presentation for the position and Direction project proposal following the format established by CSIC in its official documents:
Essentially the presentation should mention an analysis of the present situation of ICMAB, including a SWOT analysis, a proposal related to the scientific program, including main challenges to be covered and the strategy and specific actions to be undertaken. It will include as well a management and organization proposal for ICMAB.
