ICMAB Doctoral Programme in Advanced Functional Materials DOCFAM+
Written on .
The new programme includes the participation of 6 implementing partner organisations: ALBA Synchrotron Lightsource (ALBA-CELLS), Catalan Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (ICN2), Catalonia Energy Research Institute (IREC), High Energy Physics Institute (IFAE), the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona (IMB-CNM-CSIC) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).
DOCFAM+ involves a wide variety of research projects & hosting supervisors within the functional advanced materials sector, targeting three main applications in alignment with major European societal challenges: Clean & Secure Energy, Smart Nanomedicine and Sustainable & Low-Cost Electronics. It goes one step further by strengthening the collaborative approach of DOCFAM while enhancing the potential and future career perspectives of recruited fellows and consolidating the excellence and outstanding trackrecord of participating entities.
The frontier research programme will be complemented with advanced training aspects through an integrating holistic approach to the training of doctoral fellows through a combination of research-oriented and demanding soft skills, in alignment with excellence in HR policies, the European Charter for Researchers & the Code of Conduct. The international & intersectoral aspects of the programme are boosted by the collaboration with several associated partner organisations, including start-ups, universities, research & technology organisations and synchrotron installations.
Host Institutions
The Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) is a “Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence" for the development of “Smart Functional Materials for a Better Future” (FUNFUTURE, 2020-2023). ICMAB is located in the Bellaterra Campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the best University in Spain according to several international rankings (ARWU, CWUR), providing an excellent environment for the development of the doctoral programme. From 2009, the UAB Campus has been also recognised as a Campus of International Excellence (Sphere UAB-CIE). In addition, six additional partner organisations will be involved in the programme to offer the fellows the perfect interdisciplinary, intersectorial and international environment to carry out their projects. The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience & Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC), the Barcelona Microelectronics Institute of the National Microelectronics Centre (IMB-CNM-CSIC), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), the Institute of High Energy Physics (IFAE) and ALBA Synchrotron (ALBA-CELLS) will contribute to the programme through the funding of several doctoral fellowships.
All the participating organisations in the programme have an outstanding track-record in terms of recruitment and training of doctoral researchers, and they are all endorsed to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, ensuring the best possible conditions to enhance the potential and future career perspectives for the recruited researchers.
