ICMAB researchers at 2026 Nanoscience Festival "10alamenys9"

ICMAB researchers will participate this Saturday, May 9, at the 10alamenys9 nanoscience festival at Cosmocaixa

On Saturday 9, Cosmocaixa (map) in Barcelona will host a full day of nanoscience activities from research centres (ICMAB, ICN2, IMB-CNM, CCiTUB, ICFO and IN2UB), universities (UB, UAB and UPC) and other organizations (ACCC, EspaiNANO, elnanoescopista) in occasion of the annual Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Festival "10alamenys9".

Throughout the day, there will be plenty of activities for all the publics. Check the schedule from 11:00 to 19:00.

Exploring the invisible universe

nano2

🕚From 11.00 to 13.00
📍Micrarium

By Judith Oró, Mercedes Linares and Esperanza Medina.

From the macro world to the nano world, in these activities we will make the invisible visible with the help of magnifying glasses and other instruments, exploring different materials of both natural and synthetic origin. Through various experiments, we will understand how the size of materials influences their physical and chemical properties, highlighting the differences between the macroscopic, microscopic and nanoscopic worlds.

Workshop "Materials detectives"

nano1

🕔From 17.00 to 19.00

By María Ortiz, Alexandra Harbuzaru and Lluis Casabona

In our daily lives, we use a wide variety of materials for different purposes. But what exactly is a material? And what properties can it have? In this workshop, we will play at identifying new materials and discover what makes them so interesting.

Workshop "Experimenting with cryogenics"

img criogenia

🕔From 17.00 to 19.00

By Ekaterina Khestanova and David Pesquera (ICN2)

We are used to the air we breathe, which is composed of 78% gaseous nitrogen. But can this nitrogen become liquid? Yes! In this workshop, we will observe the behavior of liquid nitrogen at -196°C, experiment with it, and discuss what cryogenics means and how this nitrogen is used in today’s science and technology.

Speaking corner

María Ortiz will give the talk "Es pot detectar allò que no es veu? Descobrint la ciència dels biosensors electrònics orgànics" in the 17:00-17:30 slot. In this talk, we will discover how organic transistor-based biosensors make the invisible visible and how they aim to transform key areas such as health and the environment.

Alexandra Harbuzaru will give the talk "¿Se puede detectar lo que no se ve? Descubriendo la ciencia de la electrónica orgánica" in the 17:30-18:00 slot. In this talk, we will see how organic transistors (OFETs)—devices capable of amplifying signals—work, and how they are fabricated in the laboratory in a way similar to making a “cake” layer by layer.

Lluís Casabona will give the talk in the 18:30-19:00 slot.

Don't miss the day full of activities to understand better nanoscience and get closer to its state-of-the art research, wether you go there with your family, friends or alone!
