ICMAB shares advances in nanomaterials and strengthens collaborations at Cluster MAV’s 10th Strategic Immersion

The Knowledge Transfer Unit of ICMAB took part in the Strategic Immersion event of the Advanced Materials Cluster of Catalonia (Cluster MAV), a special gathering that marked the cluster’s 10th anniversary and that was held this last June. The event served as a key space for sharing knowledge, exploring synergies, and setting new challenges for the future, with the aim of continuing to promote advanced materials in Catalonia.

Cluster MAV held its tenth Strategic Immersion on June 5 and 6 at the Park Hotel San Jorge in Platja d’Aro, in a very special edition that served to commemorate the entity’s 10-year trajectory. More than fifty professionals and representatives from companies, knowledge centers, and institutions took part in this key gathering for innovation and collaboration in the advanced materials sector.

The two-day event, focused on business growth to build a more competitive and resilient advanced materials sector, featured talks on the opportunities and challenges facing Catalonia’s advanced materials ecosystem. It also highlighted the cross-cutting nature of advanced materials.

The Cluster MAV project was born out of the need to create a collaborative structure to drive innovation and knowledge transfer in the field of advanced materials, fostering connections between the various players in the sector—both business and institutional.

ICMAB in Cluster MAV

ICMAB is a founding member of the Cluster and, since the beginning, has been actively involved as a leading research center in materials science. Over this past decade, ICMAB has become a prominent member of the Cluster, actively participating in many of its activities. Highlights include ICMAB’s leadership on the NANOHUB platform, its participation in the printed electronics course, soon to launch its second edition, and its co-coordination of the nanomaterials and nanotechnology working group.

This year, Alfonso del Rey, head of the Knowledge Transfer Unit, presented the latest milestones of the nanomaterials and nanotechnology working group.

One of the most highly valued sessions of the event was the brokerage activity, designed to promote direct exchange of ideas and identify opportunities for collaboration. Thanks to the addition of Miquel Galindo as the Unit’s new technician, ICMAB was able to increase its interactions with other Cluster members. There was also space dedicated to showcasing materials. ICMAB presented two prototypes: a sublimator and an electrochemical sensor.

Over the past decade, ICMAB has strengthened its commitment to technology transfer by leading joint initiatives and actively participating in cluster projects. This collaboration has opened new channels of connection with the business sector and has brought visibility to the scientific advances developed at the Institute.

Looking to the future, ICMAB will continue to promote actions that bridge research and industrial application, build key alliances, and consolidate its role as a leading player within the advanced materials ecosystem in Catalonia and beyond.

A two-day event marked by reflection, innovation, and new collaborations to shape the future of advanced materials in Catalonia

The 10th Strategic Immersion of the Advanced Materials Cluster of Catalonia (Cluster MAV) brought together over fifty professionals from companies, research centers, and institutions on June 5–6 at the Park Hotel San Jorge in Platja d’Aro. The event celebrated the cluster’s 10-year anniversary with a program focused on business growth, innovation, and collaboration.

Key moments included a keynote by Joan Martí (ACCIÓ) on growing with purpose, inspiring business case studies, and the introduction of a materials showcase and B2B meetings—generating over 70 networking sessions.

The Cluster also highlighted the essential role of its five working groups and welcomed four new members. The gathering concluded with the General Assembly, which approved a new strategic plan for 2025–2026 centered on innovation, sustainability, and talent.

The Cluster MAV will continue celebrating its 10th anniversary with a new gathering on November 27, 2025: MAV Day 2025 — an opportunity to keep sharing successes and future challenges.
