In today's visit, we had the talk of our researchers
Dr. Agustín Mihi, and
Dr. Juan Luís García Pomar, from the
NANOPTO group, who did a talk on
"Materials of the future for energy". Agustín talked about the light, photonic materials and solar cells, and Juan Luís about fluorescent and fosforescent materials, and made some nice demos with UV light.
In the second part of the visit, the PhD researchers Martí Gibert and Enrique Pascual, showed the students how to build a dye-synthesized solar cell, and every student could make one and test it in the sunlight.
Thank you Eva and Pau, the teachers at IES Consell de Cent, and all the students, for visiting us. We hope you have enjoyed the visit!

ESCOLAB opens the doors of the research centers in Catalonia and offers the opportunity to dialogue with the researchers that work in advanced science. More than 10,000 students can visit these universities and research centers and participate in the different activities (more than 200) they offer. Visits mainly consist of a talk given by one of the researchers, and a demo or a workshop, in which the students can manipulate and start being a scientist.
ICMAB participates for the first time in this programme, together with more than 70 universities and research centers. ESCOLAB is an initiative from the Ajunament de Barcelona, coordinated by the programmes Barcelona Ciència, and the Institut de Cultura de Barcelona, and Cultura Científica de l'Institut Municipal d'Educació de Barcelona, with the participation of many research centers who offer scientific activities for highschool students.
