The IT Service at ICMAB oversees all computer systems, data networks, internal software, and the institute’s digital presence, ensuring they effectively support researchers and management staff.

Objectives of the IT Service:

  • Develop and implement strategic action plans for IT and communications at ICMAB.
  • Provide the necessary tools and infrastructure for the institute’s computing needs.
  • Design, install, and maintain ICMAB’s computer systems and data network.
  • Deploy, manage, and support specialized software for administrative and research purposes.
  • Oversee the functionality of Distributed Computing Services.
  • Ensure the reliability, integrity, and security of data, systems, and communications.

Systems and Communications

Responsabilities of the IT Service:

The IT Service at ICMAB is responsible for:

  • Network Management: Overseeing the wired and wireless computer network (Eduroam, ICMAB, and guest networks).
  • System and Server Administration: Managing computer systems and servers, including five virtual email servers and three physical web servers that support approximately 100 websites.
  • Virtual Private Networks (VPNs): Maintaining secure remote access to ICMAB’s computer services.
  • Telephony Management: Administering the institute's telephone infrastructure, including virtual PBX servers, the dedicated telephony network, and physical and virtual telephony terminals.
  • IT Security: Defining and implementing passive and active security measures, including maintaining firewall rules and continuously updating antivirus and anti-malware systems.
  • Scientific Software Infrastructure: Managing servers required for scientific software applications.
  • IT Procurement: Handling all hardware and software purchases, including drafting necessary documentation.
  • User Support: Providing assistance with IT-related issues.
  • Hardware Maintenance: Ensuring the proper functioning of servers, network equipment, and personal computing devices (PCs and laptops)
