Abstract:
This Thesis is focused on the study of different molecular hybrid materials based on the stable free perchlorotriphenylmethyl (PTM) radical. The incorporation of terminal alkynes into the chemical structure of the PTM has provided new chemical tools to prepare multifunctional systems and to expand their potential applications in solution and on surface.
Molecular junctions based on monolayers on gold and on H-terminated silicon have been characterized as molecular wires, where the particular electronic nature of the radicals plays a key role on the electrical performance. In addition, PTM chiral paramagnetic materials with a particular interest in the field of molecular (spin)electronics have been synthesized. Finally, CNT functionalized with radicals permitted to modulate the optical and magnetic properties of the nanotubes.
