Judith Guasch, awarded with a leader position of a Max Planck Partner Group

The ICMAB researcher Judith Guasch has been appointed Leader of a Max Planck Partner Group (Dynamic Biomimetics for Cancer Immunotherapy) in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research (Heidelberg, Germany). This position, started this same 2017, strengthens the collaboration of ICMAB with the Max Planck Society through the research that Judith is performing, which is based on the development of biomimetic lymph nodes to help improving novel adoptive cell therapies, specially those designed to treat cancer.

Judith initiated this research as a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Joachim P. Spatz at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (Stuttgart, Germany). Through this nomination, the researcher will continue collaborating with this group, reinforcing the international collaborations of ICMAB with first-class research institutions.

Max Planck Partner Groups are a useful instrument in the joint promotion of junior scientists with countries interested in strengthening their research through international cooperation with Germany. Partner Groups are set up with institutes outside Germany with the prevision that, following a research residency at a Max Planck Institute, top junior scientists (postdocs) return to a leading and appropriately-equipped laboratory in their home country and carry out further research on a subject that is also in the interests of their previous host Max Planck institute.More than 40 Partner Groups exist worldwide. 

The work of the Partner Groups is evaluated after three years and provided the evaluation is positive, can be extended to five years.

Judith's research interests are focused on the design, synthesis, and fabrication of multifunctional molecular and supramolecular materials for biomedical applications. Special interest is devoted to study the cell-material interaction for improving novel adoptive cell therapies for the treatment of cancer.
