LabsinLove counts with the expertise of ICMAB researcher Rosario Núñez, research scientist at ICMAB LMI group, whose role focuses on the development of new boron compounds for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). This innovative cancer treatment combines a boron-based drug with neutron irradiation to selectively target and destroy cancer cells while preserving healthy tissue. The main goal is to make these compouds highly selective to effetively reach tumor cells, significantly improving BNCT's potential.

LabsinLove is dedicated to bringing BNCT to the forefront of cancer therapy. By leveraging innovative boron compounds and delivery systems, the company aims to improve the precision and effectiveness of cancer treatments, offering new hope to patients with difficult-to-treat tumors. The recognition at the AcexHealth Investor Day underscores the potential impact of their work in the healthcare sector.

The AcexHealth Investor Day serves as a platform for emerging health startups to showcase their projects after months of mentorship and support from industry experts. The event provides entrepreneurs with the opportunity to present their health technology innovations to investors, including representatives from investment funds and business angels interested in financing groundbreaking projects in the health sector.

The achievements of LabsinLove exemplify the successful translation of scientific research into practical applications, highlighting the importance of collaboration between research institutions and industry in advancing healthcare innovation.

LabsinLove team

LabsinLove's success is driven by a dedicated team of experts from various institutions, including researchers from the ICMAB. Rosario Núñez, researcher in boron chemistry, focuses on developing boron-rich compounds and nanoparticles for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT). She is joined by Miquel Nuez-Martínez, a postdoctoral researcher specializing in the synthesis and characterization of innovative boron-rich compounds. Their combined expertise significantly advances the development of targeted cancer therapies.

The team also includes Carmen Ruiz-Ruiz, a pharmacist, immunologist, and biologist leading studies on the biological effects of neutrons and their immune responses. She heads a group of enthusiastic biologists at the University of Granada, with experience in neutron irradiation experiments at international facilities, such as the Institute Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France. Additionally, María Isabel Porras-Quesada, the team's youngest scientist, is conducting her industrial doctorate focusing on the biological response to BNCT, particularly with new compounds. Her skills encompass testing new boron compounds, from cytotoxicity and tumor uptake to the biological response to neutron irradiation with various biological endpoints.

This multidisciplinary team exemplifies the collaborative effort between ICMAB-CSIC and other institutions, driving innovation in cancer therapy through BNCT.
