Abstract

Organic electronics offers a versatile platform for low-cost, solution-processable, large-area and flexible devices, whose performance strongly depends on molecular organization, processing conditions and device interfaces. This thesis investigates these relationships across different organic electronic architectures and length scales. In organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), TMTES-pentacene:polystyrene blends were processed by bar-assisted meniscus shearing to study how vertical phase separation affects charge transport and direct X-ray detection. Polymer-induced interfacial passivation and morphology optimization were identified as key factors in reducing trapping and improving device performance. A novel solution-processable donor–acceptor charge-transfer complex based on Ph-BTBT-C10 and F4TCNQ was also developed, exhibiting near-infrared absorption, n-type phototransistor behavior, and distinctive out-of-plane electrical and thermal transport properties. Finally, bis-thiophene-diketopyrrolopyrrole derivatives were assembled into Langmuir–Blodgett monolayers to investigate charge transport in molecular junctions, revealing the role of supramolecular organization and intermolecular interactions. Overall, the results demonstrate how processing, molecular packing and interface quality collectively govern charge transport and optoelectronic functionality in organic electronic devices.
