ICMAB Open Positions
Open Position: Two PhD positions on metal anode based batteries
Deadline: Jul 30, 2023
Two PhD positions will be available at the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) to work on metal anode based batteries with ICMAB researcher Alexandre Ponrouch.

The positions offered are in the framework of the recently funded ERC Consolidator project MULTIMETALBAT: Multi-metal anode: Towards safe and energy dense batteries.
The project main objective is to bring a new paradigm for metal anode by developing electrolytes containing a mixture of multiple cations (Li+, Na+, K+, Ca2+ or Mg2+) which will modify the plating and stripping mechanism when compared with conventional single metal anode. The outcome is expected to the development of safer batteries with higher energy density compared with state of the art Li-ion cells.
PhD1: Spectrocopic characterization and organic-based electrolytes
The successful candidate preferentially has prior experience in spectroscopic characterization techniques (FTIR, RAMAN, XPS). Knowledge on physico-chemical properties of organic based electrolytes will be valued.
The applicant should hold (or expect to obtain by 31 July 2023) a MSc. degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related disciplines.
PhD2: Electrochemistry and electrodeposition
The successful candidate preferentially has prior experience in electrochemistry and electrodeposition. Knowledge of electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance, impedance spectroscopy and X-Ray diffraction will be valued.
The applicant should hold (or expect to obtain by 31 July 2023) a MSc. degree in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, or related disciplines.
How to apply
Interested candidates should send their CV (only PDF files please), a short statement of purpose, and names of two referees to Alexandre Ponrouch (
