PhD position in Organic Electronics

We offer a PhD position working within the framework of a European ERC StG project and “Explora Ciencia y Explora Tecnología” project. The contract will be for 3 years, approximately starting date September 2016.
The candidate will be able to join to a pioneer, dynamic and active group from the Department of NanoScience and Organic Materials (NANOMOL, www.icmab.es/nanomol)
that belongs to the Materials Science Institute of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC) located at the UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) research park.
The Nanomol Department has a wide expertise and recognized excellence in the synthesis, processing and study of molecular and polymeric materials with chemical, electronic, magnetic and biomedical properties. We continuously generate new knowledge in our basic and applied research projects regarding the micro- and nano-structuring of molecular materials.
The research will be mainly focused in the field of organic electronics and, in particular, on electrolyte-gated organic transistors. These devices have been recently matter of interdisciplinary studies because of their versatility and potential in applications, such as in (bio)-sensors. The project’s vision is the development of a hi-tech platform for the detection of biomarkers/analytes of interest in biomedical/environmental applications.
The main tasks that the candidate will have to carry out within the project include:
a) Surface engineering; modification of inorganic substrates with organic molecules.
b) Characterization of organic (semi-)conducting thin-films by means of electrical measurements, scanning probe microscopies, X-ray, etc.
c) Electrical/electrochemical characterization of the new (bio-)sensor as a function of the analyte concentration.
The fellow must hold a Bachelor degree preferably in Chemistry and hold a recognized Master degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or Nanotechnology. High academic records are required. Experience in electrochemical techniques and organic materials will be highly valued.
The successful candidate will work in an international environment and might travel to other European countries to develop the project. Also, the candidate will receive a strong multidisciplinary training and will work in a dynamic group.
