"Química i Cel·luloide": Cinema and Science at the CSIC "Residència d'Investigadors"

The CSIC in Catalunya and the CSIC "Residència d'Investigadors" organize a cycle about cinema and science during October-November 2019 to celebrate the 150 years of the Periodic Table. The films that will be shown (for free!) are: "Marie Curie", Temple Grandin", "Wall-E" and "Her". All the films will be on Friday at 6:00 pm, and will be introduced by a CSIC researcher.

Marie Curie

The film Marie Curie (Marie Noëlle, 2016) is about the Polish scientist, the first person to win two Nobel prizes in two different categories: Physics and Chemistry. The film talks about her life and her research after Pierre Curie's death. 
The chemist Gemma Fabriàs, from IQAC-CSIC will introduce the film and will participate in a colloquium with the audience. 

Temple Grandin

The film Temple Grandin (Mick Jackson, 2010) is about the zoologist with autism, born in 1947, that became an expert on animal behavior. 
The archeologist Ariadna Nieto from IMF-CSIC will introduce the film and will answer the questions of the audience. 

Wall-E

The film Wall-E (Andrew Stanton, 2008) is a Pixar film of 2008 about the daily life of a robot built to clean up the mess on planet Earth, which has been devasted by the humans and in which there is no more life. 
The film will be introduced by Júlia Borràs from IRI-UPC-CSIC, who will talk about robotics and their importance in fighting climate change.

The film Her (Spike Jonze, 2013) shows the life of a man (Joaquin Phoenix), who initiates a romance with an I.A. device, with the voice of Scarlett Johansson. This film made it with the Oscar on best original script, and represents in a natural way the changes in human relations due to the advances in technology and I.A.
Josep Puyol-Gruart, researchera at IIA-CSIC will introduce this film to the audience.
