Radical Science: the Science that is going to transform the world at CCCB
The cultural project that will bring together science, the humanities, and the arts to reflect on the impact of research, starts next week in Barcelona.
Radical Science is a project that mixes cutting-edge research with other disciplines, in order to imagine the world that will come in the following decades. It consists in a series of debates, that will take place from January to June this year in Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) open to the general public.
The programme of debates, curated by the physicist and science journalist Toni Pou, will include and discuss the issues with Magmas, a project of poetic residences curated by the scientist and poet Joan Duran, with artistic proposals curated by the researcher and cultural producer Irma Vila, including talks for secondary school students. Lluís Calvo is the poet assigned to the Advanced Materials project, in which we participate.
Inauguration of Radical Science
Radical Science will be presented on Monday 20th January at 6:30 PM at Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB). In this session, the directors of the centers coordinating the Complementary Plans projects in Catalonia will present Radical Science to the general public. The event is free but pre-booking is compulsory.
Reimaging Energy
Following the inauguration, there will be the Debates' sessions. The one in which the InCAEM project co-organizes will take place on 21st and 22nd of February 2025. The session, entitled Reimagining Energy will count with the participation of Vaclav Smil, Beatriz Roldán and Mar Reguant.
Participation of ICMAB

- Astrophysics and High-Energy Physics, led by IFAE, the center coordinating this area at the national level
- Quantum Communication, led by ICFO, which will coordinate this area at the national level during the second half of the project
- Advanced Materials, led by ALBA Synchrotron
The InCAEM project has been funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Generalitat de Catalunya through the Complementary Plans programme, which includes NextGenerationEU funds. It is coordinated by the ALBA Synchrotron with the involvement of the following partners: the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2), the Institute for Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC), and the Institute for High Energy Physics (IFAE) - Scientific Information Port (PIC, UAB).
