Scientific internship at the ICMAB thanks to the SCQ-IEC Research Awards

The "Societat Catalana de Química" (SCQ-IEC) organizes every year the contest on the best research chemistry projects for secondary school students (Premis als Treballs de Recerca de Batxillerat dins l'Àmbit de la Química). The award for the finalist students is a two-week scientific internship in a Catalan research center or university during July 2018. This year, at the ICMAB we had Nerea and Helena, who spent two weeks with us!

The awards ceremony of the 13th edition took place on May 2, 2019 at the IEC. This year, the ICMAB hosted Nerea Parada, from the Institut Badalona VII (Badalona) and Helena Pérez, from Institut Garbí Pere Vergés (Esplugues de Llobregat), for a two-week scientific internship with some of our researchers:
  • Nerea Parada, who won the award for her research project entitled "L'aigua líquida ot ser dura? Determinació de la duresa total de diverses mostres d'aigua i estudi del seu efecte sobre la formació d'escuma", supervised by Jose Angel Hernández (Institut Badalona VII, Badalona), did her internship with Rosario Núñez, in the Inorganic Materials and Catalysis Lab. She could experience the lab-work on the synthesis of carboranes for biomedicine applications. Nerea was here from the 1st of July to the 12th of July 2019.

  • Helena Pérez, who won the award for her research project on "Anàlisi química del patrimoni cultural", supervised by Maria López (Institut Garbí Pere Vergés, Esplugues de Llobregat), did her internship with Núria Crivillers and Alejandro De Sousa Rodríguez, in the Nanomol Group. She worked in the synthesis and purification of organic molecules for sensing applications. Nerea was here from the 15th of July to the 26th of July 2019.

Apart from the laboratory, the students could visit our installations and equipment, and attend seminars and workshops related to materials science.

Thanks to the Societat Catalana de Química, especially to Carles Bo and Fina Guitart, for counting on us! We hope they had a nice stay with us!
