Abstract
Electron crystallography leverages electron diffraction as a physical phenomenon to investigate both the order and disorder in crystalline solids at the nanometre scale. In recent years, advancements in hardware and software for acquiring and processing electron diffraction data have significantly expanded the field’s reach across various scientific disciplines. This seminar aims to provide a general view of two key techniques 3D electron diffraction and 4D-STEM and highlight their role in tackling complex and concomitant challenges in materials science and nanotechnology.
About Sergi
I am a materials science physicist trained in electron crystallography and electron microscopy. My research focuses on the atomic structure characterization of nanocrystals through the development and implementation of novel and advanced electron diffraction techniques. I use a TEM as an electron diffractometer to understand the crystalline nature of solids at the nanoscale, thus providing fundamental insights that help to explain their physical and chemical properties not attainable by other methods.
