Abstract & Bio:

Prof. Temelli’s research program at the University of Alberta focuses on the use of separation and conversion technologies for value-added processing of Canadian crops. Use of supercritical carbon dioxide technology, targeting lipid and nutraceutical components, involves various unit operations, including extraction, fractionation, reactions, membrane separation and particle formation techniques with the goal of novel process development based on a solid understanding of fundamentals.

Delivery systems for bioactives that can be used as food ingredients is a major target and Prof. Temelli will discuss some examples, including solid lipid nanoparticles, liposome formation and loading with bioactives, and Pressurized Gas-eXpanded (PGX) liquid technology for drying of high molecular weight biopolymers and adsorptive precipitation of bioactives.
