Abstract:
The current limitation of available treatment options for age associated diseases as well as infections asks for increasing efforts to be made to focus on hit identification and hit-to-lead optimization programs to ensure a sustainable flow of new drug candidates into the development pipeline. This is of utmost importance in pharmacognostic research since natural products are the main source of chemical scaffolds in drug discovery.
In my presentation, I will focus on some recently developed workflows, which can be used for the targeted identification of bioactive natural compounds from complex mixtures using C. elegans in combination with big data analysis to harness the tremendous advances in cheminformatics, analytics, spectral and separation techniques, as well as high content screenings. The effectiveness, strengths and limitations of the presented strategies will be demonstrated on most recent application examples.
