Three new MSCA postdocs arrive at ICMAB!

In total, the European Commission awarded €404.3 million to 1610 postdoctoral researchers across Europe.

The European Research Executive Agency (REA) received 17,066 applications for this call, of which 16,836 were eligible and were evaluated. 1610 projects were selected. This result corresponds to a 9,6% success rate.The selected applicants represent nearly 80 nationalities. They will work in 45 countries in Europe and the rest of the world. Three of them are coming to ICMAB: Silvia Rasi, ChunSheng Wu and Mercedes Linares.

About Silvia Rasi

Silvia will be working in the BioNeTLAG project. Within The central breakthrough idea of this project lies in exploiting the chemical properties of polyfunctional, programmable precursors, never before used in CSD, to engineer a controlled network of intermetallic bonds. This strategy aims to preserve atomic-scale homogeneity throughout the rapid kinetic-driven growth process, thereby ensuring superior performance. In addition, TLAG will be extended to novel HTS materials capable of competing with those currently established in the market.

About this award she got, she said: "I am particularly motivated not only to address the often-overlooked challenge of deeply understanding solution chemistry as a means to achieve greater control over material performance, but also to pursue it within a group that originated in physics, but evolved into an internationally recognized leader of superconducting CSD films by consistently maintaining an open engagement with the chemistry side. I am therefore extremely grateful to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions for providing me with this opportunity in this time and place!"

About ChunSheng Wu

Chensung will be working in the project CHAMP (CHiral Architecture for Electrically Pumped Perovskite Laser), which is dedicated to developing next-generation laser diodes by integrating nanophotonic platforms with halide perovskite materials. This project focuses on achieving electrically pumped lasing capable of emitting intrinsic circularly polarized light, bypassing the need for external optics. It represents a breakthrough for quantum communication and advanced display technologies.

About getting this MSCA award, he said: "I am deeply honored to be awarded a prestigious MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship. By bridging my background in perovskite laser materials with the world-class expertise in nanophotonic platforms at ICMAB’s Nanopto group, I look forward to pushing the boundaries of laser technology. Here’s to a journey of rigorous science, innovation, and great collaboration!"

About Mercedes Linares

Mercedes will work on the cMOFProbe project, dedicated to advancing electrically conductive metal-organic frameworks (cMOFs) for next‑generation chemical sensing technologies. The project focuses on developing high-quality cMOF thin films and integrating them into field‑effect transistors to create sensitive platforms for monitoring air pollutants. By combining innovative film fabrication with advanced environmental scanning probe microscopy, the work aims to uncover how microscopic electrical and structural features govern device performance. These insights are expected to guide the future development of cMOF-based sensing technologies.

About getting this award, she said: "I am thrilled to have been awarded this MSCA Fellowship, especially this year as it was such a highly competitive call. I want to greatly thank Esther Barrena for her support with the application and Carmen Ocal for her mentorship in the early stages, to Dolors Grillo from the Talent office, and to my family and friends who supported me in all the process. I have been working at ICMAB since April last year with a Beatriu de Pinós fellowship and I am very happy with the team at the PCSI group. I have greatly enjoyed the general work environment at ICMAB, the excellent facilities, and the great institutional support. I am excited to continue my research here with this new project on conductive MOFs, an emerging and promising field."
