ICMAB Events

The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meeting will be on 17-18 Nov 2022

On 17-18 November 2022, the ICMAB Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) meeting will take place to evaluate the research lines and the overall performance of the Institute.

The SAB is composed of 12 worldwide scientific experts in the areas of the targeted research of our Severo Ochoa project: Smart Functional Materials for a Better Future (FUNFUTURE) in the areas of Clean Energy, Sustainable Electronics and Smart Nanomedicine.

This year 2022 some of the SAB members have changed. We would like to thank the participation to the ones leaving, who have been with us from 2016 and until 2022:

And we would like to welcome the ones joining us from this next SAB meeting 2022:

And, of course, thank you to the ones who have been with us since 2016 and that continue:

The ICMAB renewed the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence certificate on 2020 for four more years (2020-2023) with the project FUNFUTURE: Smart Functional Materials for a Better Future. M. Rosa Palacín, ICMAB Vice-Director and IP of the new Severo Ochoa project will talk about the context, strategy and progress of ICMAB during this last year.

Last year, the SAB Meeting evaluated two of our Research Lines: RL4 (Tuneable and Low Cost Molecular Electronics) (coordinated by Marta Mas-Torrent) and RL5 (Bioactive Materials for Therapy and Diagnosis) (coordinated by Imma Ratera). In this year's SAB Meeting, we evaluate the other three:

  • RL1: Sustainable Energy Conversion and Storage Systems (coordinated by Alejandro Goñi)
  • RL2: Superconducting Materials for Emerging Technologies (coordinated by Teresa Puig)
  • RL3: Oxide for New Generation Electronics (coordinated by Gervasi Herranz)

The coordinators of all 5 Research Line will present the main highlights of each line, and some selected researchers from RL1, RL2 and RL3 will present in 12-min talks more in detail some of the most relevant highlights of the three evaluated lines.

The SAB members will also have the opportunity to see the results of our Frontier Interdisciplinary Projects (FIP) during a Poster Session, and will have a Laboratories and Facilities guided tour with individual guides (PhD researchers) around ICMAB.

RL1: Sustainable Energy Conversion and Storage Systems

Coordinator: ALEJANDRO GOÑI

Highlights presented by:

  • Sergi Riera (Nanopto Group): Efficient and stable organic photovoltaics by combinatorial screening
  • Sebastián Reparaz (Nanopto Group): Second Sound: searching for new alternatives to overcome Fourier Heat Transport
  • Dino Tonti (Solid State Chemistry Group): Multivalent Battery Chemistries

RL2: Superconducting Materials for Emerging Technologies

Coordinator: teresa puig

Highlights presented by:

  • Lourdes Fàbrega (MULFOX Group): Transition-Edge Sensors for astrophysics and dark matter search
  • Joffre Gutiérrez (SUMAN Group): REBCO coatings for RF applications under high and ultra-high magnetic fields

RL3: Oxide for New Generation Electronics

Coordinator: gervasi herranz

Highlights presented by:

  • Massimiliano Stengel (Laboratory of Electronic Structure of Materials Group): First principles theory of flexoelectricity: from 3D to 2D
  • Can Onur Avci (MULFOX Group): Magnetic insulators: an enabling platform for innovative spintronic concepts

More details

All the ICMABers are welcome to attend the meeting, which will be on 17 and 18 November 2022, and to chat with the SAB members during coffee breaks and lunch time.

The meeting will take place at the ICMAB Seminar Room "Sala d'Actes Carles Miravitlles". Take a look at the AGENDA for more information.
